It depends... ...on the type of herpes infection being treated. The infection itself may be cleared in only 1-5 days, but it can take a lot longer for symptoms to clear and healing to be complete -- faster for recurrent genital or oral herpes (HSV1 or HSV2), longer (somtimes 1-2 weeks) for initial HSV infection or for herpes zoster (shingles). Discuss with the doctor who prescribed it.
I have a 5 day pres of Valtrex (valacyclovir). I've had a sinus infection that has been getting worse: would Valtrex (valacyclovir) work for this?
Won't work. Valtrex works for herpes and nothing else. The typical "sinus infection" (usually just a common cold) responds best to over-the-counter decongestants and pain reliever (aspirin, tylenol, (acetaminophen) ibuprofen, etc) if needed. Contact your doctor if your symptoms are severe and you think you might benefit from additional treatment. But for sure don't waste your Valtrex! Read more...
