There is more ivf going on now because it is more accepted and the rates of infertility are increasing (that's another post).
But also to blame are some societal reasons like increasing maternal age at birth- older mothers are more prone to twinning. Also because of improved neonatal care, twins are more likely to survive and reach reproductive age and that increases odds of more twins.
