In brief: Symptoms different

Influenza does not ususally give gut symptoms like gastroenteritis.
Flu begins abruptly w/ muscle ; joint aches, fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose ; fatigue. Flu complications: pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, ; ear infections. Viral gastroenteritis: diarrhea, vomiting, belly pain. Complications: dehydration, electrolyte disturbance. The term 'stomach flu' is a misnomer and creates confusion.
