In brief: Hmmmm
I view aspergers as a uniqueness among humans, rather than a disorder. Even though there are biological abnormalities in aspergers patients, aspies are wonderful gifted folks who have narrowed but incredible skill sets.
They may require help to get along in our society, but mostly they need to love themselves, refine their social armamentarium, & perfect their gifts.

In brief: Treatments can help
People with severe symptoms of asperger's disorder can be quite impaired in terms of daily life, and a variety of proven methods, mostly behavioral but some medications, can relieve symptoms or teach them how to get through life more easily.
Mostly, one tries to reduce troubling symptoms that may range from severe obsessions to poor social skills, improving quality of life.
