Wish I knew. Neti-pots help some people. Antihistamines may reduce the irritation response. Blowing nasal collections instead of sniffling is a definite help but sniffling is a hard habit to break - it takes conscious practice. Drinking lots of water is also a big help. As far as I know, nothing will totally get rid of it. I do feel for you. Read more...

Will mucinex (guaifenesin) help with a bad persistant cough I've been having (my pediatrician said I have post nasal drip)? I am 17.

Likely not. Mucinex (guaifenesin) breaks up mucous and if your cough is caused by irritation in the back of your throat from nose drainage then not likely. I recommend talking to your doctor, telling them you are not happy having the cough and ask if they have any idea of how to stop the nasal drainage. Read more...

What's the best OTC remedy for post nasal drip and cough? I tried Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM and it did very little to help my coughing and throat "tickle" sensation.

Depends. If the cough is from post-nasal drips, it may respond to OTC nasal steroid (takes a few days). It is from sinusitis, you may need a Rx antibiotic. If from asthma, you will need a Rx controller drug for asthma. Each condition requires difficult treatment and thus a diagnosis is needed. Read more...

Expected. The D is a stimulant and thus it is not surprising that you end up with insomnia. Mucinex (guaifenesin) D will cause similar side effects. Nasal steroid is far more effective and would not cause insomnia or drowsiness. Read more...
