In brief: Nerve impingement
Pain radiating to the posterior thigh can come from a l2-l3-l4 nerve impingement so an MRI will be able to help 'pin-point' the exact problem. Initially, you may just need a Medrol (methylprednisolone) pak (oral steroids) to see if that 'clears up' the inflammation.
Injections may also help. Hope you are better soon!
