Can I use nystatin cream for pityrosporum folliculitis?

No, but... I do not believe Nystatin works on pityrosporum, but ketoconazole and selenium sulfide do!. Try otc Nizoral ad shampoo or selsun blue shampoo and lather it up on the affected areas x 5 minutes daily and wash it off in the shower. Do this for 2 weeks and see if you had success!

I was putting a cortisone cream on my face to treat some redness, and now I think I have developed pityrosporum folliculitis. What are some options for treating it until I can get into the doctor?

Cortisone face rash. Applying cortisone creams to the face to treat redness can worsen both pityrosporum folliculitis and rosacea. Things may look better when using cortisone initially because cortisone constricts blood vessels and redness seems relieved, but over long term, these blood vessels dilate and bumps develop. This needs prescription meds. Unfortunately no otc products help. Read more...

If a rash is Pityrosporum Folliculitis would Selsun selenium sulfide shampoo and an antifungal spray/cream help clear it up? What would work faster?

Try different stuff. Lots of options. Find out which works. I know of people sleeping painted blue with dandruff shampoo, and others who get fine control taking a ketoconazole 400 mg tablet before working up a sweat in the gym, once a month. I'm glad you got the diagnosis made -- it gets missed a lot. Lots of stuff works. You get to choose. Best wshes. Read more...

Ketoconazole. Topical, or do like physicians -- a 400 mg tablet before you exercise to the point of being drenched in your sweat, and let the sweat cover you for an hour, repeat monthly. There's a bunch of other things that work as well. Read more...

Can Pityrosporum Folliculitis slightly mimic scabies? Where on body would it appear? Would antifungal soap clear it? How would one be tested for PF?

Not really. It is frequently misdiagnosed as acne. If you're using acne meds appropriately and things are not getting any better think maybe you have PF. Should be treated with anti fungal meds. Scabies most commonly appears at pressure points of clothes on skin- belt, wrists, and the webs of the fingers. Read more...

I've been told I have pityrosporum folliculitis- slightly rough pink papules non-itchy on chest/back. 1. What are the best oral and topical meds? 2. Is jojoba oil ok? 3. How do I reduce the redness?

See a dermatologist. Jojoba oil a waste of money. Pityrosporum is another term for dundruff. Good to wash in shower using shampoo containing zinc pyrethium, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, tar, or salycilic acid. You probably need a different prescription ; perhaps a different diagnosis. Ketoconazole. A course of oral ketoconazole and topical ketoconazole shampoo is currently the recommended treatment. Oral medication should be discontinued when the lesions resolve. Because relapse almost always occurs when treatment is withdrawn, topical ketoconazole is indefinitely continued after successful initial treatment with oral medication. Read more...
