In brief: Kidney stones

There are many causes for kidney stones.
Diagnosis is made by combination of urinalysis, ultrasound of the kidneys, ct scan (non-contrast) or by straining urine and find the stones in the urine. Most common symptoms are pain and blood in urine.

In brief: X rays diagnose it

Stones are different types but they all are crystals of some material that accumulate to form a stone.
If you have a history and worry about stone disease, you need to drink lots of water or citrus fluids. Watch for sugars if diabetic or not ideal body weight. Also need to be under doc supervision if have edema or CHF since lots of water may make the condition actually worse!
