In brief: Osteoporosis is
Thinning of bone making a patient more susceptile to bone fractures.
We have seen patient develop early thinning called osteepenia and then osteoporosis in the 40's and 50's. When women reach menopause, 10 to 15% of total bone within the first year can be lost. Steroid use and other risk factors exist for earlier osteoporosis such as being white, thin, and have a family history.
