How long should antibiotics be used for Lyme disease? I was stopped before the two weeks was up whole being treated on doxycycline for a past infection of Lyme.

Treatment of lyme. Lyme disease is an extremely complex illness sometimes , and what is diagnosed as lyme may include other "piggyback" infections. A simple case of lyme discovered early may resolve completely , but cases that are not diagnosed early may become chronic . I have CT relatives with recurrent symptoms that respond well to different antibiotics but don't want to clear . http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/treatment/ Read more...
It depends. Antibiotics are very helpful when started within days of being infected (the sooner the better). ILADS (Drs. who specialize in Lyme) advises doxycycline 200 mg 2x/day for 30 days,a higher dose and longer time than most Drs. prescribe, but many cases will be cured taking lower doses for shorter times. If it's been weeks since infection antibiotics may not help much! See https://tinyurl.com/y8opon3c. Read more...

My husband has Lyme disease he had a reoccurrence with nervousness and stiffness on doxycycline 100mg 7 days. Is that enough treatment?

Lyme disease. Acute lyme disease must be treated with at least 3 weeks of antibiotics. Chronic manifestations attributed to lyme disease seldom respond to antibiotic therapy and are considered by many to be immune system mediated symptoms, perhaps to products of the spirochaete that have remained in the body rather than to active infection. Probably not but... Acute lyme disease responds well to Doxycycline though lyme specialists advise 200 mg 2x/day for 30 days. If his recurrence is due to a new bite i advise that dose. If it's recurrence of previous infection, as dr. Raff mentions, this is a controversial subject. There is strong evidence lyme can persist (http://bit.Ly/1ffxjxl) but i feel antibiotics are seldom effective for chronic lyme.See comment:. Read more...
