Can Be Helpful. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to be helpful for a variety of anxiety disorders. You may also find that you get even better benefit using a combination of medication and therapy, at least until the anxiety is under better control.
Very helpful. It is important to find a psychologist that provides a structured cognitive behavioral therapy program because some providers just end up chit chatting with you instead of providing the same structured cbt program that the reseach has found to be very helpful.

Compliance is key... Agree w/others. Just adding: therapy requires participation and meds only work if taken. So, any effective treatment plan is one you're comfortable enough with to follow. For anxiety severe enough to impede therapy (eg too avoidant/worried to go to sessions, etc.), meds (eg ssri) may help you engage in therapy. Are you saying. That you have poorer concentration because of your anxiety disorder? Treat the anxiety disorder. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be quite effective. Psych meds may be indicated. Aim for daily exercise, 8 hours of sleep /night ; good nutrition w 5 servings of veggies ; 4 of fruit per day. Depends. Seems that people tend to prefer one or the other. Klonopin is long acting and you may not notice an immediate effect. Xanax (alprazolam) is quick onset and does not last longer than a couple hours. Often with xanax (alprazolam) you take more than twice daily and can get withdrawal anxiety. Anticipatory anxiety. You may have anticipatory anxiety in response to a similar stressor you may have experienced w/ the first anxiety episode. May need some coping mechanism to deal w/ your anxiety if you can identify the source of your anxiety. Group therapy. I can only tell u what it's like from my point of view as a psychologist. It's a safe environment in which to learn how to be around others by starting w/people who experience what u do. It's wonderful to watch people overcome fears through sharing them, finding out they're not alone ; hearing how others find ways to cope.
