Are all antibiotics in the oxazolidinone drug class really expensive, or is it just zyvox (linezolid)? Why is that?
Bro taking zyvox, (linezolid) now has mouth sores and possible hemorrhoids. He informed the doc but nothing was done. Is this a normal side effect of the drug?
See below: All medications have side effects. For example, tylenol (acetaminophen) causes more liver failures and has more overdoses than any other prescription or otc medication. Zyvox has many serious side effects but it's used for very specific purposes that can save a life from severe bacterial infections. ...Read more
No: It is fine to be vigilant but I have used the drug in many patients with minimal problems. At the en of the day you are probably on the drug because of a serious bacterial infection. You must weigh the risk against all the benefits. ...Read more

Also vomitting, insomnia, constipation, rash, dizziness, bone marrow suppression, seratonin syndrome(fever, agitation, mental changes, tremors), neuropathies, and lactic acidosis. No definitely not: Zyvox, or linezolid, has great activity against Gram Positive bacteria. Serratia however is Gram Negative. Those classifications have to do with the structure of those different classes of bacteria. Make sure you ask your doctor 'what' is the rationale for treatment. Hopefully there is Gram Negative coverage included in your regimen. An Infectious Diseases doctor may be needed if things get tough ...Read more

I only have day & half left on zyvox (linezolid). Bleeding clots. Scared to go to hospital because of the risk of MRSA getting worse. Can I do anything from home?
Go see your doctor: Your doc can help you decide what you should do next. But ask yourself what's worse? Besides, there's no guarantee that you'll get worse just by going to hospital. ...Read more

Why would I keep having positive semen culture infections? I was on zyvox (linezolid) and it cleared up, now it is back and I am on ampicillin.
Prostatitis?: Presumably you have a bacterial Infection in the prostate or seminal vesicles. These infections can be difficult to eradicate. Maybe need prolonged treatment. Ampicillin may work if the bacteria is susceptible. Also double check w/ doc that the bacteria is not a contaminant, i.e. not really causing the problem. If so, you might have non-bacterial prostatitis, which won't respond to any antibiotic. ...Read more
My semen culture keep coming back positive for enterococcus faecalis. Been on Zyvox (linezolid) before and now on ampicillin but still doesn't feel better. ?
I had serotonin syndrome after being given zyvox while on 40 mg of Paxil (paroxetine) six years ago. What are long term effects? I still do not feel like myself.
Well: I am not aware of any long term affects from seratonin syndrome. As a result, however, you probably got off all the meds that could help. Not feeling well may be related to undertreated anxiety but not due to brain damage from seratonin syndrome. Sleeping well? Panic attacks, sad? Low energy? It could be the same issues for which u were taking the meds 6 years ago. Good luc but care if not get. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
