Zyrtec Overdose In Children
Hello. My son is 2 years and 8 months . I gave him 1/2 tsp Zyrtec (cetirizine) in the morning. Gave him 1tsp instead of 1/2 at bedtime.is that considered overdose?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) dosage: Althought it's a little extra, it will be fine. He might just be extra-sleepy at bed-time. ...Read more
What r u treating?: depends on the condition you are trying to treat, if an allergic reaction, yes you can give the zyrtec, but the labels won't tell how much to give if below 2-years old, you can give 2ml to help the reaction. but if you are trying to treat other conditions as runny nose or congestion, see your pediatrician, good luck ...Read more

Are there any side effects to taking Zyrtec, (cetirizine) lysozyme, kaloba long term in children 2-4 years old?
My 2 year old has a minor cold. Can I give her 2.5ml of children's mucinex cold, and still give her prescribed 5ml of children's zyrtec? She is 33 Lbs
Better not: Children's Mucinex cold has more than one formulation, and some contain an antihistamine as zyrtec, you don't want to combine both, besides some ingredients in these formulations may have side effects on your toddler. As for the zyrtec, 2.5 ml (2.5mg) would be enough, saline nasal washes, acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) would be helpful, together with rest and fluids, if any problem, call/ see her MD ...Read more
I gave my 4 year old a 10mg tablet of the Walgreens brand of Zyrtec (cetirizine). I didn't realize it was for children ages 6 and older. will he be ok?
I give my 17mnth old 1/2 teaspoon of children's zyrtec (cetirizine) for allergies but some days it's not enough. Can i increase the dose or try something differ t?
Do not increase : A 17 month old should not have allergies to inhaled items like dust or pollen. Zyrtec (cetirizine) could cause drowsiness and i would avoid long term use of zyrtec (cetirizine) in your child. If your child has a runny or stuffy nose that is unresponsive to zyrtec (cetirizine) then see your doctor to make sure there isn't an infection brewing. ...Read more
Long term use of children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) vs zyrtec. Which one works best with the least chance of becoming tolerant or non responsive ? Should i alternate
Zyrtec (cetirizine) works best for me but also is very sedating for the next 24 hrs. Can i split the pill and take a lower dose (5 mg) or even 2.5 mg children's dose? Would those doses be less sedating?
Possibly but...: Decreasing the dose may also decrease the sedative effects. But it will presumably also decrease the main effects as well. Consider trying other medications, and also ensure that you are not taking zyrtec (cetirizine)-d which is more sedating that zyrtec (cetirizine). ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Can I give my 2 year old children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night.... and how much.....she takes zyrtec in the morning?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) + Benedryl: The occassional use of Benedryl for breakthrough allergy symptoms in addition to regular use of Zyrtec (cetirizine) should generally not cause any problems. Dosing of Benedryl is based on your child's current weight. A simple phone call to your pediatrician should be all that is needed to confirm that the appropriate doses of Zyrtec (cetirizine) and Benedryl are being given. ...Read more
Can I give my 1-year old son children's Zyrtec? He seems to be battling seasonal allergies. If so, what's the recommended dosage?
No. : Zyrtec not the good medicine for one year old child. This maybe not the allergy at all. Most likely this is teething syndrome and swelling gums and nasal mucosa because of this. Use nasal washing with normal saline 2 times a day and camomile tea for gums 4-5 times a day. Follow with pediatrician for other medications. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I'm taking zyrtec for severe case of hives. Was told to take Claritin (loratadine) in between if needed. I need more. Can i overdose if i take a second claritin (loratadine)?
Pick one: While both zyrtec (cetirizine) and Claritin (loratadine) are approved for treatment of allergies in children, it is rarely necessary to use both at the same time. In my experience, Claritin works for many and zyrtec works for most patients. While there is little harm to combining these, it doesn't add to the effectiveness. ...Read more
