Zyrtec Doesn T Work
What can I do if my allergies are really working on me, can I take two zyrtec (cetirizine) when one doesn't work?
I've been taking Zyrtec (cetirizine) for years. This year it doesn't seem to be working for outdoor allergies. Would changing to a different med work better?
Possible but: I suspect that either you have become increasingly more allergic or the allergen exposure has gone up this year. Try a nasal steroid. If that still does not do the job, see an allergist. ...Read more
I took 2 clairton a day for 2 years and then had to switch to zyrtec (cetirizine) for 1.5 years I think its not working if I switch back to clairtin will it work?
Probably not: Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a more effective antihistamine than Claritin (loratadine). Antihistamines do not become less effective with prolonged use so if your symptoms are worse while in zyrtec then the underlying condition has become more severe so the same dose of zyrtec is unable to control the symptoms. Call you doctor and consider consulting a specialist in allergy & immunology. ...Read more
Which one is more effective or works faster and better ; zyrtec or Allegra (fexofenadine). Claratin not working for me.
Long term use of children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) vs zyrtec. Which one works best with the least chance of becoming tolerant or non responsive? Should I alternate
Zyrtec (cetirizine) works best for me but also is very sedating for the next 24 hrs. Can I split the pill and take a lower dose (5 mg) or even 2.5 mg children's dose? Would those doses be less sedating?
Whenever I get hot I start to itch, I had hives prior but they're gone I'm currently on zantac (ranitidine) and Zyrtec (Costco brand). It doesn't seem to work.
Cholinergic?: There is a condition known as cholinergic urticaria (small bumps) which occurs during the cooling down period after a rise in core body temperature (hot shower, exercise, stress etc). If this fits your pattern, then try taking the antihistamine up to every 8 hrs to see if this may work. ...Read more
I have very bad allergies. Allegra (fexofenadine) 180 use to work but it wears off fast. Zyrtec doesn't do anything what should I do. Always congested & feeling bad?
Other meds: Antihistamines do not manage congestion well which is why decongestants are often added. Singulair (montelukast) and nasal steroids manage all allergy symptoms and in head to head comparisons steroid sprays control symptoms better than oral antihistamines. Topical spray antihistamines are also an option. Allergy shots help reduce or eliminate medications in 2/3 of patients so may need to see allergist. ...Read more
I have a swollen lymph node below my ear. I take Flonase and Zyrtec. The doc wants to refer me to an ent if amox doesn't work. What could this be?
Reactive Lymph Node: I sounds like you have a reactive Lymph Node to an ENT infection. This may come from an infection of the ear, the throat or the sinuses, or even a sore on the head. Lymph nodes are part of your immune system and help to clear infections, which is why they swell up. Usually they swell for a few days, and then settle after a week or 2. If more occur, then go back to your doctor ...Read more
I get headaches from allergies. Can I take Claritin (loratadine) and zyrtec at the same time? Claritin (loratadine) didn't work alone when I traveled away from home.
Yes, but: Both Claritin (loratadine) and zyrtec (cetirizine) are new generation antihistamines. While there is no harm to using them together, there is likely no added benefit either. The most effective treatment for nasal allergies is the topical nasal steroid sprays such as qnasl, flonase, veramyst, nasonex, (mometasone) etc if a person doesn't have relief with an antihistamine alone. ...Read more
Zyrtec, claritin, singular, and allegra don't work on my 7 yr olds allergies at night (nasal drip & cough) only benedryl. Can he take it every night?
Dose?: Zyrtec & Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are very similar. He should get similar relief if he's taking the right dose for his weight. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will make him more drowsy. You should talk to his doctor about an rx nose spray to control allergies like Flonase or nasonex. ...Read more
As you all know, Day 11 of a cold. And today at work I was exposed to alot of dust: now I def can't stop coughing, clearing throat. Tried zyrtec (cetirizine).Help?
Experiencing prolonged chest congestion. X-Rays, blood tests negative. Antibiotics didn't work. Have been trying Zyrtec at night, together with nasal spray Qnasl (beclomethasone dipropinat) to reduce post-nasal drip. After one week, cough is less persiste
Right direction: Common causes of cough, other than infection are reflux and post-nasal drip. It sounds like the evaluation has looked for the more serious causes, but if the problem persists, continue to work with your doctor. Sometimes a pulmonary doctor can help with more resistant coughing. ...Read more
I have horrible allergies right now (runny nose, itchy eyes, itchy throat) I took claritin (loratadine) & zyrtec they didn't work what do you suggest I try now?
Allergies: 21 year old lady with allergies unresponsive to OTC antihistamines. If blocking histamine has not worked, try using a nasal corticosteroid spray such as Flonase which you can buy over the counter. You should also try to avoid allergen triggers and visit a specialist in Rheumatology who can use an allergy panel to diagnose your specific allergy and possibly do immunotherapy. Good luck. ...Read more
A little: Zyrtec is a new generation antihistamine and is very good at treating itching, sneezing, runny nose. It is less effective for severe nasal congestion. The product zyrtec-d contains a decongestant that may help. Also, the topical nasal steroid sprays are even more effective with less side effects for nasal congestion associated with allergies. ...Read more
Zyrtec (cetirizine) works best for my allergy symptoms, but full 10 mg pill makes me pretty groggy for next 24 hrs. Is it safe to split zyrtec (cetirizine) pill into 5 mg dose?

I am on topamax (topiramate) and zyrtec daily. Recently I have been getting really overheated at work quick. Last Fri I got too hot and felt nauseous and felt like I may pass-out but I finished my task.?
No: No, zyrtec (cetirizine) does not work to prevent you from getting an allergic reaction to food or to treat food allergies. Food allergies can present with different clinical symptoms and can be life threatening. Currently strictly avoiding the food is the only treatment. Only a few centers do food desensitization. If you have real food allergy, you should see an allergist specialist. ...Read more
I have very bad seasonal allergies. I have tried everything, Zyrtec, Claritin (loratadine) and Allegra. Nothing works, what can I take?
See an allergist: If none of these OTC meds worked, unlikely that anything else will, you need to be evaluated, good history and physical examination. See your doctor first for initial evaluation, who would refer you or check aaaai. Org or acaai. Org for an allergist in your area, best wishes ...Read more
