Zyrtec Doesn T Work
Occasionally: It really depends on the nature and severity of your symptoms. Some people feel better after using Claritin for non-allergic issues, largely because antihistamines like Claritin can dry out the nasal passage. This can reduce a runny nose or mild nasal congestion, even if they're non-allergic in nature. Claritin is fairly weak, however, and other non-drowsy options like Allegra can be more helpful. ...Read more
Does mirtazapine put one to sleep better than trazodone? Trazodone doesn't work for me anymore. Do they work similarly?
Medication effects: I understand your need for good sleep. Trazodone and Mirtazapine are not sleep medications. They are used to treat Depression. Stresses of relationships, separation, loneliness, work and past unresolved feelings of worry, fear, sadness, hurt, resentment and guilt can cause difficulty to sleep and result in poor sleep. See Psychiatrist for Diagnosis, Intensive Therapy, discuss Medications effects. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Similar, yes: They are both antihistamine, but Claritin is classified as nondrowsy. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) seems more effective in controlling allergies symptoms, but has more potential to cause drowsiness etc... So, if your allergy is not too bad, it is reasonable to try claritin. Claritin is once daily comparing with Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 3-4x/day if this fail, consult your doc for additional treatments etc... Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Preparation h works but makes me itch. Tucks (witch hazel) ointment doesn't make me itch but it doesn't work. What should I do?
Severe allergies. OTC don't work anymore except pseudoephedrine and benedryl (side effects). Recommend OTC. DO NOT SAY SEE A DOCTOR - can't afford?
Otc phenylephrine doesn't work for me, but pseudoephedrine does. However, it can make me jittery. What should I try? Children's dose, perhaps?
Depends on cause: There are both allergic and non-allergic causes of allergic rhinitis, which causes symptoms such as runny nose. If your runny nose is the result of allergies then it should be helpful. However, if your runny nose is the result of an non allergy source than Claritin (loratadine) will not be helpful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is it ok to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to treat my allergies? I've tried zyrtec and Claritin but they don't work.
Most likely: If you're sure you have allergies (presumably you're referring to pollen, etc) and aren't allergic to any of the ingredients in brand name Benadryl or generic diphenhydramine, then sure, it's worth a try. But beware that Diphenhydramine may cause drowsiness & sleepiness as well as dry eyes, dry mouth, urinary retention & constipation. It's used in some otc to help induce sleep. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
In general or in you: Axid & Zantac (ranitidine) are 2 of many h2 blockers used to treat heartburn. As such, the manufacturer of Axid will tell you that Axid is better than zanac while the manufacturer of Zantac (ranitidine) will tell you differently (of course!). In large groups of patients, both are equally effective since they both work in same fashion. However, you may like one more than other (think of chevy vs dodge vs ford). ...Read more
Seasonal allergies: Clarinex is another form of the antihistamine medicine-claritin. The generic name is loratidine. It helps with allergies, like hay fever. There are many current examples of medications which have become generic, so drug companies try and make an alternative form that they can market with a brand name. If you take claritin-your body converts it into clarinex. Another example is Nexium (esomeprazole) and prilosec. ...Read more
