Same doctor gave it?: You better make sure the same doctor who gave you desipramine and Celexa knows you are planning to take Ambien (zolpidem) too. If more than one doctor gave you these medications, then you are going to get in trouble because all these medications work on the brain and interact. I highly recommend you pick one doctor and make sure he/she recommends you take all three before you proceed. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

For sleep, but....: Silenor is a sleep medication but it works very differently from ambien. Silenor's chemical name is doxepin, this has been used as an antidepressant for many years (at much higher doses 100-300mg/day vs 3-6mg for silenor). It works similar to OTC sleep aids like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and doxylamine by blocking histamine. Zolpidem works in a more complex way on hormones that regulate sleep. ...Read more
Is there a medication stronger or similar to Ambian er ( Zolpidem ) ? In the same mechanism. Thanks .
My partner is a 50 yr old male with good health that takes no medication. He has chronic sleep issues, is it safe for him to take Ambien (zolpidem) every night?
Ambien (zolpidem): Nope. Not at all. This highly addicting and dangerous medication does not provide good restorative sleep. It is something that knocks a person out but does not allow all the necessary stages of sleep. Think of the drug that killed michael jackson. The same principles apply. Ambien (zolpidem) will knock one out but cause brain disease over time given the lack of good sleep. ...Read more

What are some good sleep medications besides Ambien (zolpidem)? After a cake for a while it stops working. I've tried several others and at the same affect. They work really good in the beginning but fade off. Any suggestions
Tolerance: Lunesta (eszopiclone) is a good alternative. Medications like Ambien are addictive and people develop tolerance to it. I started prescribing relaxation apps to patients of mine to help them sleep and it has worked great. 60% of them quit their sleeping medications completely. I would recommend white noise at night also to try and stop using them. ...Read more
I took 4 ambien, (zolpidem) 3 klonopin and 3 zestoretic just so i could sleep, was it safe to mix those medications?
I have insomnia and tried numerous medications. I am now taking 100mg of seroquel with 10 mg of Ambien (zolpidem) and it is working great. Any problems w/this.
The main question: Is why you have insomnia in the first place. What evaluations have you had for this? There are many causes -- and although the seroquel and Ambien (zolpidem) may knock you out, this does not get to the root cause of your problem. Also, Ambien (zolpidem) is habit-forming, and in time you'll need more medication for the same effect. You might consider seeing a sleep medicine physician for evaluation. ...Read more

Can i take these two medications together? I take Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep on a regular basis and pulled a muscle in my back and happen to have some leftover flexeril. Can i take these two medications together?
Ambien (zolpidem) : Ambien (zolpidem) and Flexeril are both drugs that are likely to sedate you. If you take both you should do it when you plan to be in a safe place. Your response to the drugs taken together may affect your level of awareness. Do not take them together if you plan to drive or use power tools. Do not combine them with alcohol. ...Read more
Is taking Ambien (zolpidem) 10mg and clonazpham and mirtzaphin and chlorpronazine and estaeolan at the same time safe my mother was told to trake all these medications at night before bed. I need to know if it is safe for her to do so
Talk to her doctor: There's no way that i can guess how complex your mother's condition may be. And she may have arrived at the current treatment regimen slowly, effectively, under close medical supervision. Therefore, you need to find out if she is dosing her medication precisely per doctors orders, then discuss any potential consequences of therapy with that physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I was perscribed Zolpidem as a backup drug when I'm nervous and I need to calm down. What does that mean? That I shouldn't get pressued on me?
What do you advise if i had a baby 6 weeks ago and am currently detoxing from perscription medecation zolpidem. I feel bad, so low?
Melatonin, herbals: There are many types and causes of insomnia. Assuming yours is the occasional, stress-related type (rather than one such as depression that requires more specific treatment), melatonin and/or various herbal mixtures (such as those sold at whole foods or earth fare) are relatively safe and sometimes quite helpful. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If I take Ambien (zolpidem) & wake up really early (6), is it a sign to get up or drug wearing off? Usually groggy & not ready to get up but hard to fall back.
Could be either : Actually, it could be either of the reasons you listed. First, Ambien (zolpidem) should work for ~6-7 hours. That said, If you've been taking Ambien (zolpidem) for awhile, talk to your doctor about the possibility of rotating medications. This usually helps to reduce tolerance. Also, remember to take Ambien (zolpidem) on an empty stomach - as food decreases absorption of the drug. Hope that helps! ...Read more
What does hypnotic drug mean such as lorazapam and Ambien (zolpidem) and are these really thd best to use on first time situational anxiety?
Hypnotics: "hypnotic" drugs are prescribed specifically to induce sleep. Ambien (zolpidem) is one. Lorazepam is a short-acting benzodiazepine with multiple uses. In low doses it can be helpful in anxiety, and in higher doses can also induce sleep. You would not prescribe Ambien (zolpidem) for basic anxiety, though. All the hypnotics can be habit forming. Non-drug methods are the first step in situational anxiety. ...Read more

Zolpidem is said to be used for a rape drug, is this true and how does it work. Can a man that has taken zolpiden get an erection while asleep?
Zolpidem: Zolpidem and any other medication or substance which sedates people can probably be used for "date rape." however, this is not an appropriate use of a medicine prescribed for temporary insomnia. Rape is a serious crime. Men often have erections while asleep, at certain phases of sleep cycle. This still doesn't excuse rape. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hi docs, would Ambien (zolpidem) show up as benzodiazepine in an urine drug screen sent to a lab?
No: Ambien/zolpidem, although sharing properties with benzodiazepines, is distinct enough not to give a positive as a benzodiazepine on a standard urine drug screen testing for benzodiazepines. That said, a special test can be done to look for zolpidem metabolites if desired. Further, it is recommended to only take medications prescribed to you making it expected for you and your doctor if tested for. ...Read more
I have tried diazepam, zolpidem, zopiclone and now temazepam and i am still not sleeping. Why do these drugs have no effect? Insomnia is debilitating
Stop the pills: Rather than taking another pill I think you need to step back and be evaluated for the diagnosis of insomnia. Your sleep pattern has to be analyzed your blood needs to be drawn. There is a lot of evaluation that must be done before the rare diagnosis of insomnia can be made. Start over ...Read more
Taking Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep, & my doctor is weaning me off of ativan after 3 yrs with giving me celexa now. I worry about replacing one drug with another.

Celexa may help anxiety or mood symptoms that may contribute to sleep difficulties and may be a better medication over the long term for your symptoms. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What's your goal?: Short answer: yes. But it will cause you to be sleepy. The better question is should you take zolpidem in the afternoon. My response would be: what is your reason for doing so?
