I've recently stopped taking citalopram, if I decide to go back on meds would zoloft (sertraline) be a similar alternative for my anxiety?

Psychiatrist choice: This is not a DIY project. You can and should play a big role, but let the psychiatrist make offers and provide info on pros/cons and alternatives. Your job is accurate descriptions, info on other conditions and meds and reactions. Anxiety is best to treat in combo w/ CBT - Learn skills! ...Read more

My doctor took me off Zoloft (sertraline) because of weight gain and loss of libido now gave me Citalopram will it have same side effects?

I have been diagnosed with gad & have tried zoloft, lexapro, (escitalopram) citalopram and remeron all to no avail. Would gabapentin be a good choice?

Probably not: In my experience, I have not seen Gabapentin to be useful in treating anxiety. Makes sure that your diagnosis is correct, and that you have been taking full, therapeutic doses of the medications you have been taking.
You may need a combination of medications, such as the addition of an antipsychotic.
Lastly, consider a second opinion with a different psychiatrist. ...Read more

What are the pros and cons of switching from celexa to zoloft (sertraline)?

What are the pros and cons of switching from celexa to zoloft (sertraline)?

Celexa/zoloft: Pros may include some response as antidepressant if Celexa was not working at optimum dose for several weeks, or was not tolerated well, and also some withdrawal symptoms until zoloft (sertraline) kicks in. Cons may include the opposite, with more symptoms of depression, especially since it takes time for the zoloft (sertraline) to work. ...Read more

Is there any chance Zoloft (sertraline) will be easier to lose weight on than celexa?

Perhaps.: But every patient is truly an individual --- there has never been anyone exactly like you, there is no one exactly like you and there never will be anyone exactly like you. That is why it is so important to find the medication that is right for you. ...Read more

Celexa causes hard to reach orgasm. Would lowering the dose help and can it become permanent? I'm on 20 mg. It does help me though. Zoloft (sertraline) made me sick

Celexa causes hard to reach orgasm. Would lowering the dose help and can it become permanent? I'm on 20 mg. It does help me though. Zoloft (sertraline) made me sick

Almost immedicately: The side effect is dose related and improves as soon as the blood levels drop which could be the next day. Of course over time if the depression returns your libido could plummet. Lexapro (escitalopram) may have less sexual dysfunction than Celexa. Young men who are anorgasmic on low doses of SSRI, I wonder about Bipolar disorder and would consider Lamictal as alternate rx ...Read more

Why is Zoloft considered a "stronger" medication than Lexapro (escitalopram) or celexa?

Why is Zoloft considered a "stronger" medication than Lexapro (escitalopram) or celexa?

It's not, really: Zoloft is not really a "stronger" medication than Lexapro (escitalopram) or celexa. All 3 are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They differ a little in the particular receptor sites they affect -- zoloft may block norepinephrine re-uptake a little more than Celexa and Lexapro (escitalopram) do, but not nearly as potently as paroxetine, duloxetine, and some older tricyclics. ...Read more

Be4 I was on celexa I tried zoloft and made intrusive thoughts worse. Now im on celexa 20mg and it works for everything except intrusive thoughts.

Recommend a SGA: Second generation antipsychotic (SGA) in combination w/the celexa you are already taking. Regardless of whether or not the intrussive thoughts are secondary to an underlying OCD, major depressive d/o, bipolar d/o, neurodevelopmental d/o, psychotic d/o - all of which can present with intrusive thoughts, and in all such cases, a SGA can be effective. CBT is an another equally efficacious option. ...Read more

Can someone who cannot tolerate celexa and Lexapro (escitalopram) tolerate zoloft? My dr said Zoloft is a stronger medication, but me wants to try.

Not stronger: Zoloft is not really stronger than Celexa or lexapro, (escitalopram) but they're not the same exact molecule. All 3 are ssri antidepressants. They differ a little in their activity with certain neuron receptors and reuptake of ne, for instance. If you need a medication from this class, it's worth trying zoloft very gradually. You might tolerate 1 more than the others. ...Read more

Why does Abilify (aripiprazole) and celexa help my mood but Zoloft made me feel sick and down. I also can't use Abilify (aripiprazole) anymore because of cost. Any other options?

Many.: The response to antidepressants differ from one individual to the next. There are other "add ons" to improve the efficacy of antidepressants such as risperdal, cytomel, buspar, Ritalin or lithium. Ask your doctor which one best suits you. You may also qualify for patient assistance for abilify (aripiprazole). ...Read more

Which medication is more known for less fatigue, Zoloft (sertraline) or celexa? (it's for gad)

Fatigue from SSRI: It depends on the person. I have had patients complain of some sedation on both, depending on the dose, and also some anxiety from both. All in all, from my experience, I would say Celexa has slight more sedative effect than zoloft (sertraline). ...Read more

You learn skills to manage your life overall and if you miss this part - it's very hard to make things better. Best wishes! ...Read more

Celexa made me feel "flat" Zoloft was great but allergic Paxil gave me worst anxiety Effexor (venlafaxine) didn't notice much what is the right med for my anxiety?

More choices: You and your doctor still have more possible choices, although you've tried several. If you've not yet been working with a psychiatrist, please do. Without a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, I can't comment on a "right med" for your anxiety. You ; your doctor should partner together to help you -- and psychotherapy is an important part of your recovery also. ...Read more

My daughter is having chronic goosebumps and no appetite and nausea after being on zoloft, celexa, cymbalta (duloxetine) and now noritriptyline in past year, why?

My daughter is having chronic goosebumps and no appetite and nausea after being on zoloft, celexa, cymbalta (duloxetine) and now noritriptyline in past year, why?

See psychiatrist: Your daughter has been taking 3-4 drugs for sometime for her problem (depression). All these medicines have side effects like nausea, stomach pain and loss of appetite. Discuss the problem with psychiatrist, he may change the medicine or add another one to make the nausea go away, so her appetite improves. Your daughter may do better on behavior therapy. ...Read more

I have tinnitus is Paxil (paroxetine) of Zoloft safer I am coming off of citalapram, it made my tinnitus worse, I am afraid of new drugs, I once had viral vertigo, ?

Good question: Citalopram made your tinnitus worse. I understand this. You have been offered two other medications. You are fearful of new drugs. Not knowing the exact mechanism that lead to the worsening of the tinnitus with Citalopram makes it difficult to predict how you will respond to either of the replacement meds. My approach then would be to target the tinnitus. You need to discuss this with your doctor ...Read more

Serotonin mishap?: A more gradual taper of the Celexa may have been easier to tolerate. Shouldering one gradually down and the other up usually works better, i.e., Celexa down to 10, and more gradual increase/addition of Zoloft, 25 for 10 days then stop Celexa and increase Zoloft to 50.
After that many years and abrupt cessation you may be experiencing serotonin discontinuation from the Celexa - despite the Zoloft ...Read more

Only concern is Zoloft (sertraline) was not the "logical" choice after Celexa (GP let me choose), that there's a definitive SSRI (say Paxil) to try bef SNRI switch?

Half and half: There are few definitive anythings when it comes to psychotropic medications. If you're thinking about switching to an SNRI anyway, you can try something that works on both Serotonin and also Norepinephrine, like Effexor (venlafaxine). That might give you an idea whether you're going in the right direction. ...Read more
