Zoloft To Lexapro
Both are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or ssris, a fancy way of saying they help your brain hold onto and use more of the serotonin it has. Serotonin is one of the chemicals in your body related to happy things, like food, sex, and sleep (which is why the side effects often affect these issues).
Celexa, prozac, Paxil (paroxetine) are also in class.
Diff comes in personal brain chemistry + med. ...Read more
Different SSRIs: Both belong to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or ssri family, same as the old prozac. Lexapro (escitalopram) works faster, in days, but sometimes makes people more "hyper" or "jumpy." zoloft needs 2-3 weeks to have an effect. It has more weight gain and sexual side effects, but in general is better tolerated. They both can be used for anxiety and/or depression in doses that depend on your sx. ...Read more
I switched from Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram) after a week on zoloft. Can I still count that towards time till I feel benefits or do I have to start over?
Luvox, Zoloft, (sertraline) and: Lexapro (escitalopram) are all SSRIs. They're all 1st line agents in tx of anxiety and depression. They all work via the same mechanism -- inhibiting re-uptake of serotonin, thus increasing serotonin concentrations. The differences between the meds have to do with subtle differences in half life, serotonin receptors targeted, and slight differences in side effect profiles. Have anxiety depressive disorder would zoloft help? . Lexapro causing many side effects. Took zoloft in the past with minimal side effects.
Switching from Zoloft to lexapro (escitalopram). Worried Lexapro (escitalopram) will make me dizzy? How common is dizziness so worried.
Straight switch from Zoloft to lexapro (escitalopram). Doc told me to just switch without tapering off. Is this ok. Was on 150mg Zoloft going to 20 mg of lexapro (escitalopram).
Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram): Many physicians will do a cross taper gradually lowering the dose of one antidepressant while raising the dose of another. If however it has been determined that the zoloft has been of absolutely no benefit than there is no need for a cross taper. The Lexapro (escitalopram) should block any possible ssri discontinuation syndrome. Discontinuation symptoms with zoloft have been reported to be 1 to 2% but in my clinical experience have actually been far less than that. You should have no problem doing this. Best wishes. ...Read more
Would you recommend Zoloft or Lexapro for gad and social anxiety? I have been on Lexapro and felt less 'numbed' to everything than when I was on Paxil (paroxetine)
Good choice: My experience: lexapro is on the leading edge. It is a more precisely made molecule, derived from celexa. Acts more quickly than the typical ssri wait for 3-4 weeks and find it works fully in 1-2 weeks per a given dose regimen. Side effect profiles same as other ssri's. Other ssri's good too. I like to stay away from paxil (paroxetine) as found it too short acting-> irritability/anxiety. Talk to ur doc. ...Read more
When Zoloft and Lexapro loose their efficacy and one cannot take Paxil (paroxetine) because of weight gain what other ssri possibilities are there for anx and dep?
SNRIs: There are many possibilities. SNRIs which are cousins of SSRIs w/ a norepinephrine component can be equally or more efficacious than SSRIs w/ sometimes less side effects such as weight gain & sexual dysfunction - would suggest evaluation w/ your Physician to discuss appropriate options ...Read more
I have had severe anxiety/panic for years. I have taken prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin, lexapro, and now viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). Nothing seems to work. What should I do?
In general, do you prefer Zoloft or Lexapro (escitalopram) for GAD, panic, agoraphobia? I of course worry about side effects - prolonged qt interval - read too much!
GAD and medication: Please do what your doc asks but consider adding a behavioral approach to address the root of the situation such as clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, psychotherapy. See www. Asch. Net for licensed providers who do clinical hypnosis and www. Relaxationresponse. Org for some self-help. Peace and good health. ...Read more
Severe depression. What can I do? I just want to feel good again. (inside that is). I suffer chronic back pain from inneffective surgeries and have t-cell lymphoma. I have tried antidepressants (zoloft, paxil, Lexapro and pristiq).None of these have helped. Can
A: A combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and anti depressants is an effective treatment strategy. There are other anti depressants with a different mechanism of action that could be tried- eg: tricyclic anti depressants (nortriptyline), mirtazapine, MAO inhibitors. The treatment could also be augmented with medications in the class of Abilify (aripiprazole), seroquel etc. If nothing else works, electroconvulsive therapy is a safe and effective treatment option. Please talk to your psychiatrist and hope you get well soon. ...Read more
My son is being weened off of Zoloft and starting Lexapro. He is taking 50 mg of Zoloft and is supposed to start 5 mg of Lexapro today. Can I give him both medications at the same time? He usually takes the Zoloft before bed and I was wondering if it is s
Medicine changes: It will be fine to transition from one medication to another with an overlap time. You can overlap by removing the Zoloft over a two week time frame while adding the Lexapro (escitalopram) gradually or all at once. It takes several days for the Lexapro (escitalopram) to gear up in the body. Monitor him for tiredness, mood changes and sleep changes. These will go away after the total switch. ...Read more

I suffer from generalized anxiety with dep Through the years zoloft, lexapro (escitalopram) and effexor (because of BP) lost efficacy. Is there anything else I can take?
Therapy?: Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room. ...Read more
I have been diagnosed with gad & have tried zoloft, lexapro, (escitalopram) citalopram and remeron all to no avail. Would gabapentin be a good choice?
In my experience, I have not seen Gabapentin to be useful in treating anxiety. Makes sure that your diagnosis is correct, and that you have been taking full, therapeutic doses of the medications you have been taking.
You may need a combination of medications, such as the addition of an antipsychotic.
Lastly, consider a second opinion with a different psychiatrist. ...Read more
What is the best medicine for OCD. We have tried Zoloft, lexapro, wellbutrin, prozac. Side effects bad or did not work. Does Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) work for OCD?

What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?
Not benzo's.: Hello - long term use of benzodiazapines can lead to tolerance. Marijuana can cause marked psychiatric problems in some people including anxiety, psychosis & paranoia. Paxil can be used long -term but most of my patients have experienced more side effects with it then from Lexapro & zoloft. I see you are on Lexapro -it has an excellent side effect profile. Buspar (buspirone) is very safe for long-term use. ...Read more

Doc told me to switch from 150 mg Zoloft to 20 mg Lexapro (escitalopram) without weaning just switch. Is that ok? Worried I will withdrawl.
Do I need to wean off Zoloft when switching to Lexapro (escitalopram) or can I just go straight to the Lexapro (escitalopram) without still taking zoloft. Doc said to do that?
Start Lexapro (escitalopram): While still on the zoloft. I usually have someone start on a small dose of the Lexapro (escitalopram) and increase it gradually while at the same time, taper down even more slowly on the zoloft. Each new antidepressant essentially has to start over again and needs time to work. Therefore you don't want to go off the zoloft too quickly, you may find out it had been doing much more for you than you had thought. ...Read more

Antidepressants best: Another antidepressant, possibly snri like Effexor (venlafaxine) may be more helpful at this time. Add ons such as gaba- calm and natural anxiety aids can help. They do cause weight gain usually. Therapy is always an important treatment modality for depression and anxiety, don't think it is not helpful! ...Read more
Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram): Making the change from Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram) should not be too difficult as long as it's done under a doctor's supervision. You will essentially reduce the daily dose of Zoloft while you increase the daily dose of Lexapro (escitalopram) as your doctor instructs you. You will continue this titration until you are totally off the Zoloft and only on your final daily dose of Lexapro (escitalopram). The process might take 2-3 weeks. ...Read more
