What sleep aids?: I don't know how long you've been on zoloft, (sertraline) or what sleep aids mean. Sleep disturbance is often part of depression, and improves as depression remits. Zoloft (sertraline) requires at least 4-6 weeks -- and often longer -- to show its effects. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and not really a sleep aid; can help with psychotic depression or bipolar. Your own psychiatrist will be better able to answer you on this. ...Read more

How long does insomnia last with zoloft. I've been on it for 3 weeks and now taking Ambien (zolpidem) and still can't sleep. How long does insomnia last on zolof?

It varies: The highest risk period for antidepressant side effects is the first 10-14 days after starting, but side effects can last up to a month before resolving. However, your insomnia sounds quite severe and given it has already been 3 weeks, in my opinion, likely warrants a change in medication. ...Read more

Chat w/ur Family Doc: Discuss your concerns w/your prescribing doc, whether Family Doc or Psychiatrist. You didn't mention why you're taking your med combo but I personally would try to stay away from Clonazepam & other benzodiazepines which can be addictive. Before adding 4th drug to your regimen, have you tried taking Sertraline in morning to see if you can sleep better later? Short of that, ask doc about changing rx ...Read more

Am taking 25 mg of sertraline for depression; started one week ago. Experiencing sleep maintenance insomnia. Will this likely go away with time?

Hopefully: The insomnia that accompanies antidepressant administration may subside with continued administration although in some instances it may persist. Some individuals are sensitive to antidepressants. You could try taking the medicine about 12 hours later than you usually do to see if it has less of an impact on sleep. Talk with your prescribing physician about these concerns. Stay safe! ...Read more
