I'm on 25mg of Zoloft (sertraline). Taking it in mornings but am having nausea and drowsiness during the day. I want to take it at night. Can I start tonight?
Yes: If you experience nausea from zoloft, (sertraline) taking it with food may help. You could also talk to your doctor about possibly splitting the dose (taking the same daily total dose but splitting it into two equal halves - sometimes side effects are caused when the blood level reaches a certain level so sometimes taking two lower doses can minimize this. I suggest talking to your doctor about this. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

It might: Gi side effects of medication are often less if the medications are taken with or after food. If you continue to have severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite, speak to your doctor about a change of medication. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Took first half tab of Zoloft (sertraline) today and I feel so sick. Dizzy, nausea, weak, what do I do?
Started Zoloft (sertraline) yesterday 25mg. I have bad nausea, spaced out feeling and aggitation. My doctor told me this is not normal and to stop. Is this normal?
Nausea & diarrhea: Are normal, because most of the receptor sites for serotonin are in the the GI tract. Agitation is a concern because SSRI's can precipitate a manic or hypomanic episode in adults with undiagnosed Bipolar Depression Type I or Type II. See your psychiatrist & take in a 3- generation family history of mental illness. 20% of kids get agitated on SSRI's, even if they don't have BPD, but not adults. ...Read more

Is it safe to be taking 200mg of Zoloft and 187.5mg of effexor (venlafaxine)? The dose for Effexor (venlafaxine) was increased recently and I've noticed rapid hr/nausea/headache.
Talk to your MD now: Effexor (venlafaxine) metabolism is reduced by zoloft (200mg) via zoloft inhibition of the enzyme (p450 2d6) that helps to break Effexor (venlafaxine) down. Depending on your genetic variant of 2d6, you could have an elevated blood level with this combination thus leading to excessive sympathetic activation; elevated risk for 5ht syndrome, extra GI upset; and no libido. Please see the prescribing md asap or get 2nd opinion. ...Read more

Side effects: These are definitely in the realm of side effects. Did these side effects occur suddenly or slowly over time. Slowly over time would make more sense as the Zoloft (sertraline) begins to take effect. This medication may not be the right one for you if it starts to cause difficulties in other aspects of your life (with respect to side effects). If nothing else has changed or is causing this of course. ...Read more

Work with your doc: Your are probably experiencing withdrawal symptoms from having reduced your zoloft (sertraline) dose too quickly.
