What sleep aids?: I don't know how long you've been on zoloft, (sertraline) or what sleep aids mean. Sleep disturbance is often part of depression, and improves as depression remits. Zoloft (sertraline) requires at least 4-6 weeks -- and often longer -- to show its effects. Risperdal is an antipsychotic and not really a sleep aid; can help with psychotic depression or bipolar. Your own psychiatrist will be better able to answer you on this. ...Read more

Is mirapex or Zoloft (sertraline) prone to causing insomnia?

Insomnia from meds: Mirapex of course is a sleep aid - effective for restless leg syndrome. It can sometimes actually worsen sleep or cause nightmares.
Zoloft - an antidepressant - can cause insomnia sometimes by prompting restlessness. Taking it in the am may alleviate the problem. It could be that the zoloft (sertraline) caused the original problem and now Mirapex is ineffective itself - or won't be unless the zoloft (sertraline) is stopped. ...Read more

On vyvanse 40mg and just had 1st zoloft 25mg last night. Had insomnia and diarrhea last night. Should I take it PM again or should I try morning?

Morning dosing.: Zoloft is a serotonin increasing agent, via the blockade of transporters in the nerve nets that remove it from the synapse. Also it does this to a lesser extent with dopamine, thus increasing that neurotransmitter. The GI tract is heavily innervated by serotonin and many people develop diarrhea or other GI symptoms from it. Also taking it at night is a bad idea due to increased dopamine. ...Read more

How long does insomnia last with zoloft. I've been on it for 3 weeks and now taking Ambien (zolpidem) and still can't sleep. How long does insomnia last on zolof?

It varies: The highest risk period for antidepressant side effects is the first 10-14 days after starting, but side effects can last up to a month before resolving. However, your insomnia sounds quite severe and given it has already been 3 weeks, in my opinion, likely warrants a change in medication. ...Read more

Can I take Buspar (buspirone) one dose in the morning with Zoloft because make insomnia to night?

3 times a day: While there is no specific contraindication to taking Buspar (buspirone) with Zoloft, the usual caution applies to medications in combination. The side effects can be more frequent and more intense than with one medication alone. Buspar (buspirone) should be taken three times a day. If it is tending to cause insomnia, taking one dose in the morning should be okay if the three doses can be spaced out during the day. ...Read more

Interactions: herbal supplement interactions with prescription medications are poorly studied. Increase zoloft (sertraline): Yes, serotonin syndrome with high blood pressure and seizures can be one risk. It is not a good idea to take two SSRI-type medications with similar mechanisms of action. It would be better to raise the dose of zoloft (sertraline), (sertraline) if it works for you. Zoloft (sertraline) is indicated for just about all anxiety disorders. If zoloft (sertraline) doesn't improve your symptoms, then it would be a good idea to see a specialist to switch. ...Read more

I'm on zoloft 200mg abilify (aripiprazole) 2mg but I have insomnia my psychiatrist switch me from trazadon ir 100mg to trazodone xr 150mg is that good &safe?

Talk to doctor: You're also taking Brintellix, an antidepressant which can interact with Trazodone to boost serotonin in the brain. Meds and whatever you're calling a "manic episode" should be reviewed with prescribing doctor. Please don't make any changes on your own. 44Year old female taking flexeril for Arthritis in back, xanax (alprazolam) and zoloft for Anxiety, and ambian for insomnia. IS it ok to take them together?

No: That combination is a bit excessive to take together. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) is a good drug but is of limited use if the muscle pain and spasm are chronic. The drug does not work for joint pain and arthritis. Please ask your main prescribing doctor about a better combination of stretching, exercise, and medications. ...Read more

I'm on Zoloft and Buspar (buspirone) and Risperdal for deeprassnt can Risperdal bi replace to remeron? For insomnia and anxiety and deeprassnt? ??

Different rationale.: The Buspar (buspirone) is often used for anxiety but it may take time for it to work. Zoloft is an antidepressant of the SSRI class, Risperdal is an antipsychotic but is used in small doses for severe anxiety. Remeron is an atypical antidepressant and is used more to stimulate appetite or improve your sleep. Please discuss this with your doctor. He has specific reasons for the use of each drug. ...Read more

Insonmia caused by Zoloft (sertraline) does it ever go away?

It should: Zoloft (sertraline) can cause either insomnia or sedation. Effects are typically transient. Also, various anxiety and depressive conditions cause insomnia. Zoloft (sertraline) and other antidepressants are effective treatments for these conditions. As such, they may alleviate insomnia related to these conditions. Thus, if zoloft (sertraline) is causing persistent insomnia, there are numerous available alternative antidepressants. ...Read more

My doctor has prescribed me zoloft 50mg. Just completed one week but the past 3 nights I've had a lot of trouble sleeping. Would it be from the medication or for my anxiety? It was happening before I started the meds but not as bad or as frequent.

Zoloft (sertraline) affects sleep: Zoloft (sertraline) can certainly cause trouble sleeping at first. This tends to get better with time. You may also notice vivid dreams (not necessarily bad ones). If this persists after the first week or is too uncomfortable, call your doc to see if any adjustment in dose may be in order. This often resolves during the first month, in many. ...Read more

Paxil (paroxetine) 30mgs for 4mos. Switched to Zoloft 1wk ago. No taper. High anxiety, crying, nauseous, no appetite, trouble sleeping. Is this Paxil (paroxetine) withdrawal?

Yes: Paxil (paroxetine) is an ssri antidepressant with a short half life of about a day. You can certainly experience withdrawal from the med, if it is stopped abruptly. Zoloft is an ssri as well and it can help alleviate the withdrawal, but it should be at an adequate dose. You should speak to your physician about your symptoms. ...Read more
