Ok to switch: Both xanax (alprazolam) and valium are of a similar class of medications, so following your provider's instructions should allow you to switch with no problem. Adding zoloft should not be an issue either. If side effects occur, let your provider know. If the medication is not as effective as desired, consider adding cognitive behavioral therapy for panic. This is also an effective treatment. Be well. ...Read more

How soon would I find relief from Zoloft (sertraline) for panic disorder w/agoraphobia? Would I need to be at the therapeutic dose for it to work?

You may find that zoloft prevents panic attacks sooner than this, but 6-8 weeks @ therapeutic dose for a good trial. ...Read more

I'm just wanting to know is it safe to take Zoloft (sertraline) with WPW I have panic disorder and have been prescribed thus just a bit weary of taking it thanks?

Yes: No scientifically valid data links zoloft (sertraline) with cardiac rhythm disturbances related to WPW. It would be reasonable to request an ECG (EKG) shortly after beginning zoloft (sertraline) to be sure no changes are noted, and to report any changes in palpitations or lightheadedness (feinting) immediately to your doctor. Nonetheless, the use of zoloft (sertraline) will likely be safe in your condition. ...Read more

It depends: What medication works best depends on a host of factors and that is why there are so many to choose from. I am concerned that the emphasis is only on medications. Professional behavioral therapy can be very effective and it is very safe. Sometimes it even allows one to eliminate medications all together. There are a host of other interventions and modalities that can also help with anxiety. ...Read more

Physical?: This is challenging but workable both medically and psychologically. If one rules out abnormal blood tests with attention to thyroid, liver, and blood counts, then consider several options for alleviating anxiety and near panic. Charting times, environment, activity, thoughts and feelings for a week, and/or doing brief breathing or relaxation techniques 2x/day, and weekly therapy to start. ...Read more
