How soon would i find relief from Zoloft for panic disorder w/agoraphobia? Would i need to be at the therapeutic dose for it to work?
Zoloft & Panic D/O: Zoloft requires at least 4-6, and probably at least 8, weeks to show its effects. I see you're on xanax too -- this can be used temporarily while you are getting accustomed to the zoloft. Effective for both: Zoloft is for both panic disorder and social anxiety. One study showed that freedom from panic attacks was 62% versus 46% in the placebo (sugar pill) group. The percent reduction in panic attacks was 88% versus 53% in placebo. Also, a study showed significant improvement social anxiety. My doc thinks being on 100mg Zoloft will balance my panic disorder and anxiety with taking 1mg klonopin 2x day. I do not feel klonopin effects. Why?
Results may vary: 1 mg bid klonepin should be generally noticeable unless there is some tolerance to benzos or alcohol. Yes: No scientifically valid data links zoloft with cardiac rhythm disturbances related to WPW. It would be reasonable to request an ECG (EKG) shortly after beginning zoloft to be sure no changes are noted, and to report any changes in palpitations or lightheadedness (feinting) immediately to your doctor. Can pain in your neck that is sudden and my head feels foggy n heavy be a physical symptom of someone who has sever panic disorder jus got off zoloft ?
Yes it could be: Withdrawal symptoms can occur coming off of psychiatric medications including zoloft. Symptoms can include pain mimicing a pinched nerve shocking type pain. Zoloft is a good long term treatment for anxiety disorders. Stopping it, especially suddenly, can not only have withdrawal effects but uncover the panic disorder it was suppressing. Other SSRI: Sometimes ssri's stop working, and in such cases other medications can be tried. Zoloft could be one. You and your doctor can discuss your next most reasonable therapeutic step. Hopefully you're also involved in psychotherapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can be especially effective with panic disorder.
