Ok to switch: Both xanax (alprazolam) and valium are of a similar class of medications, so following your provider's instructions should allow you to switch with no problem. Adding zoloft should not be an issue either. If side effects occur, let your provider know. If the medication is not as effective as desired, consider adding cognitive behavioral therapy for panic . Zoloft (sertraline) & Panic D/O: Zoloft requires at least 4-6, and probably at least 8, weeks to show its effects. I see you're on xanax (alprazolam) too -- this can be used temporarily while you are getting accustomed to the zoloft. You may find that zoloft prevents panic attacks sooner than this, but 6-8 weeks @ therapeutic dose for a good trial. ...Read more

Results may vary: 1 mg bid klonepin should be generally noticeable unless there is some tolerance to benzos or alcohol. Generally the zoloft (sertraline) may take a few weeks to a month to be effective, and has the advantage of fewer risks complications such as addiction and tolerance, sedation, etc. About 70% of people w/ panic disorder can be reduced or discontinued from meds w cognitive behavioral therapy. ...Read more

Yes it could be: Withdrawal symptoms can occur coming off of psychiatric medications including zoloft (sertraline). Symptoms can include pain mimicing a pinched nerve shocking type pain. Zoloft (sertraline) is a good long term treatment for anxiety disorders. Stopping it, especially suddenly, can not only have withdrawal effects but uncover the panic disorder it was suppressing. Best test of this is to restart zoloft (sertraline) and see what happens. ...Read more
