Zoloft Dosage Ocd
I am diagnosed with severe OCD. Doc put me on Zoloft (sertraline) 300mg QD and Anafranil 75mg OD. My question is that, this is a normal dosage to tackle anxiety???
OCD: Use of higher doses of anti-depressants such as zoloft (sertraline) is effective for OCD. The Anafranil dose if moderate but could cause an interaction with the very high dose of zoloft (sertraline). Contact your doctor if you experience any side effects chills, diarrhea, muscle pain, excessive sweating, agitation. ...Read more
After stopping Cymbalta (duloxetine) 60mg my dr gave me 25mg zoloft for anxiety/ocd. Says it will not cause weight gain at this dosage. I gained on cymbalta (duloxetine).? tx
Weight Gain: I hope this works for you. Time will tell. I find my patients seem to eventually gain weight on these medications regardless of the dose. Wellbutrin (bupropion) is the only antidepressant that seems not to contribute to weight gain. However, this medication might be appropriate for you. I hope you will not be offended by my suggestion: Perhaps this could be a good time to increase your activity level. ...Read more
Yes: The best is therapy + medication. Fda approved meds include anafranil, paxil, (paroxetine) luvox, Prozac & zoloft. Dose for ocd is at first 50 mg once a day and gradually increased to a maximum of 200 mg. Discuss w/ prescribing doc. Exposure-based cognitive behavioral therapy trials have produced consistent remission rates ranging from 40% to 85% across studies. ...Read more
Considering Zoloft (sertraline) for severe OCD. What would be a good STARTING dose, given the severity? 50mg seems like not enough. Start w/100mg?
Ask doctor: Work with your doctor. Usually Zolft is started at 50 mg, and the dose is increased, as the patient tolerates it. For OCD, you probably will get up to 200 mg in a month or so. Then you may need to stay at that dose for several weeks to see an effect. Cognitive behavioral therapy should be started right away, if you are concerned about the severity of symptoms. ...Read more
Sincerely thank dr. Alan h. Ali, I'm on Zoloft (sertraline) 100mg morning&50 evening, can I switch to single dose 150mg after dinner as you advise? (ocd),
I am currently taking 100 mg of generic Zoloft (sertraline) for depression, but the OCD is definitely not gone. Do I possibly need a higher dose or a different med?
Ocd treatment: Sometimes with ocd it can take some time to find the right medication. If zoloft (sertraline) has been partially effective, it can be increased to 200mg under a doctor's supervision. There are other medications which can help if zoloft (sertraline) does not such as Luvox and anafranil. Cognitive behavioral therapy can also be effective. Depending on the severity, therapy and medication. ...Read more
On for ocd 200 mgs of zoloft added wellbutrin (bupropion) 200 mgs. I was wondering if risperidone in a low dose would be better as an add on than wellbutrin (bupropion)?
I take 200mg of Zoloft (sertraline) for OCD. I am also tapering off of Klonopin. I am hoping to move to natural supplements. Can I take GABA with Zoloft (sertraline)? Reco dose
Possibly: Zoloft (sertraline) can be used to treat ocd. 50-200 mgs daily is the recommended dosing. Some may require more. Can take up to 12 weeks to see the full effect. Always discuss dosing with the prescribing phsyician and remember cbt for OCD is extremely helpful alone or in combination with medications such as zoloft (sertraline). ...Read more
Most likely not: Zoloft can be effective in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is usually well tolerated. Let your doctor know if you have any significant side effects as this is often easily addressed. I don't recommend using only pharmacological treatment for OCD- as psychiatric conditions usually respond best when treated with psychotherapy, appropriate meds & life style modifications. ...Read more

Is 100mg of Zoloft (sertraline) daily a very small amount for treating ocd? If after 1 month, no benefit can it still help? And if yes after how much time?
Don't know if you: Started at a lower dose of zoloft (sertraline) ; worked up to 100mg over a month, or if you have been on zoloft (sertraline) at 100mg for the last month. It can take up to 6 weeks to get the full response at that dosage. Some people may respond at 100mg and others will require a higher dose. Please ensure that you discuss this with your psychiatrist/ medical provider. I would not give up this early on. ...Read more

Zoloft (sertraline) helped with normal ocd, but caused intrusive unwanted thoughts after a month. What can I do now? Best anti-psy/ssri combo and no wt gain?!?
Intrusive thoughts: Intrusive thoughts are often part of ocd, so it's not clear whether zoloft (sertraline) "caused" them, or they were occurring from your ocd at the same time you were barely getting started with zoloft (sertraline). All antidepressants require at lest 6-8 weeks' trial, and people often need higher doses of ssri's for ocd than for depression. Hoping you'll confer with your psychiatrist about this and not give up! ...Read more
I am on Zoloft (sertraline) and I am struggling to read or follow conversations. Will it get better. How so I know if its from my obsessional OCD or from the drugs?
Depends: There are many treatments for OCD - it really depends on your particular symptoms right now. Your best bet is to see your psychiatrist to discuss the various options and a psychologist to find behavioral changes you can strive towards to augment the efficacy of any medication. Hope that helps! ...Read more

After being tapered off Zoloft, I've had complete return of all the ocd rituals I have before meds. Is this normal? I'm afraid this is a relapse?
Yes: If you were stable on Zoloft and now have a complete return of symptoms after stopping it, this sounds like a relapse. Please talk with your doctor about your symptoms. Depending on the reason for stopping Zoloft, options might be to restart Zoloft, start a similar medication and/or start a course of cognitive behavioral therapy. I hope this helps. ...Read more
I am filled with intense terrible fear on a regular basis& have bad ocd. About 2start zoloft, (sertraline) & scared of it2 (seffect. Do u think I can be ok on z?
Zoloft (sertraline) ; Panic: Zoloft can be very helpful for panic disorder and for ocd. It requires 6-8 weeks' daily dosing for effectiveness, and the most common side effect is nausea. This does not happen with everyone. It's also not habit-forming like the xanax (alprazolam). 25mg you're also taking. Yes, like many others you can be okay on zoloft. Your doctor will monitor your progress, and hopefully you're in psychotherapy too. ...Read more
I am on zoloft (sertraline) for ocd, and it scares me reading all of the stories of people losing their mind and hurting people. Is that something that can happen?
Probably not: Stories of SSRIs causing violence usually involve situations in which the people are not taking it; or are not taking enough of it; or have a condition for which it is inappropriately prescribed (such as bipolar disorder without a stabilizer). Otherwise, you can rest assured that it won't make you a mass murderer. ...Read more
Maybe: 5-htp is available as an over the counter supplement in many countries, and has shown effectiveness in depression. Whether it is clinically useful for OCD is unknown to me. I have prescribed both paxil (paroxetine) and zoloft in the past for OCD, but we now have better medications, so I wouldn't recommend either the supplement or those two medications. I believe the best medical treatment are other drugs. ...Read more

Can I take efalex original brain formula with Zoloft (sertraline) and do you think it would help my ocd?
Efalex: Efalex is a supplement containing a high dha formulation of fish (tuna) oil and evening primrose oil supplying gamma-linoleic acid (gla). This is actually a low epa product, and epa is the portion of fish oil especially needed in mood disorders like depression (common in those with ocd). Omega-3's have not been studied well in ocd, so we can't say if they help with this. ...Read more
If Zoloft (sertraline) wasn't effective enough for my OCD on 200mg, nor luvox 200 mg ; what can I try? Would another ssri work?
I don't think so: All the ssris quite similar mechanisms of action so it is doubtful that another one would help. Unfortunately there are no truly effective meds for ocd although sometimes adding a low dose antipsychotic med might help. Specialized psychotherapy is the best way to go [ask if your psychotherapist thinks that he or she can help]. ...Read more
