Is Zoloft (sertraline) bad for my liver?

Is Zoloft (sertraline) bad for my liver?

Probably Not: Although metabolized by the liver, zoloft (sertraline) is one of the milder antidepressants on the liver. If you are very concerned you can ask your doc to check your liver enzymes.

Liver (Definition)

This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more

Does Zoloft have bad side affects long term? Like kidney, heart, liver disease?

Does Zoloft have bad side affects long term? Like kidney, heart, liver disease?

Few side effects: Zoloft (sertraline) is an antidpressant SSRI that rarely can lead to inflammation of the liver or other allergic reactions. Main side effect occurs with sudden withdrawal (reduce dosage gradually) or the so-called "serotonin syndrome" if taken with other drugs that increase the likelihood of this side effect.

Major Depression: I understand your distress. It seems that stresses have made you very depressed and hopeless. You were born with the Blessing and Wonder of Life Force and Breath of Life due to which you are alive today. Liver damage is not a common side effect of Zoloft (sertraline). See GI Specialist for liver status. See Psychiatrist for Diagnosis; discuss Inpatient Psychiatric Treatment You are a precious Human Being!

Hi, My boyfriend has a fatty liver and his doctor has prescribed him sertraline (zoloft) for anxiety how big of a risk will this affect his liver?

Minimal probable: Depending on the severity of your BF's liver disease, the medication Sertraline should be ok, but his Liver function tests should be monitored periodically as a precaution. Best wishes.

I'm taking Zoloft (sertraline) 200, lamictal 200 and olanzapine 10 for the last 2 years, it was lower before that, can it cause liver damage, or other dangerous things?

I'm taking Zoloft (sertraline) 200, lamictal 200 and olanzapine 10 for the last 2 years, it was lower before that, can it cause liver damage, or other dangerous things?

No: If you are taking your meds as prescribed, ; your liver is functioning normally, it should be O.K. If you are started on Depakote or depakene, (valproic acid) you may need to have the Lamictal reduced or started on those meds at a very low dose, as it can cause Lamictal levels to be increased by 50% in your system.

I have 3 prescriptions. Zoloft, Nexium (esomeprazole) and clonazepam. Are any of these hard on or dangerous to your liver?

I have 3 prescriptions. Zoloft, Nexium (esomeprazole) and clonazepam. Are any of these hard on or dangerous to your liver?

All three of these: Medications are broken down by your liver. If your liver is normal it should not be dangerous.

Is it ok to take seroquel xr, Zoloft (sertraline) and liver tone plus tablet at night so you would not get that hangover filling in the morning.

Is it ok to take seroquel xr, Zoloft (sertraline) and liver tone plus tablet at night so you would not get that hangover filling in the morning.

Hangover?: If having a hangover feeling after taking your prescribed medications at night, your dose may need adjusting -- especially the seroquel (quetiapine). I suggest discussing what you're experiencing with your doctor, since s/he may be able to help you solve the problem without additional supplements. Livatone plus has milk thistle in it -- and studies of interactions w/medications are equivocal.

Looking for a safe combo, antipsychotic with 100 mg Zoloft (sertraline) daily - slightly sensitive liver cannot take lithium or Depakote (dizziness, low bp)?

Looking for a safe combo, antipsychotic with 100 mg Zoloft (sertraline) daily - slightly sensitive liver cannot take lithium or Depakote (dizziness, low bp)?

Abilify (aripiprazole) both: Augments the antidepressant effect of zoloft and treats the psychosis. I would start there. Dose will need to be slightly lowered because zoloft can raise Abilify (aripiprazole) levels. I also find that it has very good results in ptsd. My Next Choice would be seroquel. Discuss dosing with your psychiatrist and make sure you are definitely not bipolar.

Accidentally give my liver too much? Had 1/4 glass of wine. Then 3 hrs later, not thinking, took a Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for allerg and 25 mg of prs Zoloft for anx

Liver likely ok: Although alcohol, Benadryl (diphenhydramine), and Zoloft (sertraline) are all broken down by the liver, the quantities you mention shouldn't be a problem for an otherwise healthy liver. But I'm a little concerned if you take Zoloft "prn" (as needed) for anxiety. It doesn't work well that way, although it can relieve anxiety if taken daily. Talk to your prescribing doctor about this.

Zoloft: There can be complications to any medicine. If you have a concern discuss this with your family doctor who can monitor your use.

I have been given sertraline, is it safe to take with migraine medication and a liver conditon?

I have been given sertraline, is it safe to take with migraine medication and a liver conditon?

Don't know: Sertraline is broken down in your liver. I do not know what the migraine medication is or how it is metabolized, nor the condition of your liver. I can't answer the question. Discuss this with the physician who prescribes your medications.

I was "wired"+gi probs for 5weeks following epidural steroid inj, have an eight yr history of sertraline which inhibits liver enzymes, causation?

Side effects: Epidural steroid injections are very safe procedures but there are some common side effects that many patients experience. Steroid medications may cause change in mood as well as sleep disturbance, which is probably what you mean by "wired." over time, these symptoms should improve.
