Zoledronic Acid Medication
Prolia: Both medications are anti-resorptive, meaning they prevent breakdown of your bone. Reclast (zoledronic acid) has been used for longer so has more side-effects that are known. It also can not be used if you have kidney problems. Prolia is an injection every 6 months (vs. 12 months with reclast). Both medications tend to be very well tolerated. ...Read more
Which drug would you choose for osteoporosis of hip prolia or reclast (zoledronic acid) what is better tolerated less side effects?
Depends: Both drugs are effective in the treatment of osteoporosis involving the hip. Prolia is likely to work better than reclast, (zoledronic acid) though there are no head to head studies comparing the two. Prolia is typically used in people who have had a previous fracture (spine, wrist), or have very severe osteoporosis. Both are well tolerated with few side effects. Prolia is given twice yearly, Reclast (zoledronic acid) once yearly. ...Read more
My doctor recommended reclast (zoledronic acid) for" convenience." I'm only concerned about the risks/benefits of a drug. Should I choose prolia or fosomax instead?
Alendronate is good.: Oral bisphosphonates are generally first line agents becuase of efficacy, price and long term safety record. Alendronate once a week or risedronate are good choices. The other meds are second line. ...Read more

My wife needs to go in for a Reclast (zoledronic acid) Infusion for Osteoporosis! What are the symptoms and what is the percentages of people that have symptoms?
Reclast (zoledronic acid):
There are many patients in whom the bone density study reports low bone density but this does not always cause any symptoms. Reclast (zoledronic acid) will stop further bone loss and may increase bone density.
Tell your wife that she need not worry about this treatment if she does not have any indication of bone fractures.
If she had those issues her doctor should/would have told her. ...Read more

Myasthenia Gravis HAVE to be on osteoporosis med. I'm severe! Interactions with Reclast (zoledronic acid) IV & MG? Scared once in system what if it flares my MG?
Osteoporosis meds: One issue with some medications used in rheumatoid arthritis, is presence of anti-tumor necrosis factor action, which can make MS worse, but this mechanism does not seem salient in osteoporosis drugs, and these would be very unlikely to adversely affect Myasthenia, as Reclast (zoledronic acid) does not affect acetylcholine in any profound way. Discuss further with your doctor, but I do NOT see a problem. ...Read more

I have had one IV infusion of reclast (zoledronic acid) and need dental extractions. And woul like two implants is this safe?
Statistically, Yes: If you take research seriously, and most of us in the profession definitely do, then there is little chance of osteonecrosis of bone from a single IV dose of reclast (zoledronic acid). That said, your chances are higher than someone who does not take reclast (zoledronic acid), and the IV form (versus the oral pill) is also a more elevated risk, statistically. Overall, talk with your dmd and get his/her take, but you should be fine. ...Read more

It depends...: On whether you have taken any other osteoporosis medication before this last Reclast (zoledronic acid) injection, including another dose of Reclast (zoledronic acid) previously. After reviewing your history with these medications, your oral surgeon can discuss the potential risks you may face and when the extraction might be safest. If delay is suggested, a root canal could buy you time. ...Read more

My grandma is in the hospital she has flu like symptoms and is severely confused not irinating much she had the IV reclast (zoledronic acid) yesterday. What's going on?
Your grandmother is experiencing a common problem in elderly patients when hospitalized- the medical term for her confusion is "delerium" ; she has several risk factors: age, acute illness, dehydration, fever, unfamiliar environment (hospital) ; probably medications. It is unlikely the Reclast (zoledronic acid) is causing her confusion.
Dementia also increases her risk- hopefully, she will improve on discharge. ...Read more

you don t have to be wrried or concern about the Reclast (zoledronic acid), pt wit RA have a higher risk of developing osteoporosis, and are the ones that need to be treated.
As far as the side effects, is like with every medication, or any activity in life.
