Hi. I'm not aware of: significant problems reducing and then eliminating Zofran (ondansetron) from your regemen. I would suggest to have an alternative plan to treat the nausea, when it comes. Is it ok to take meclizine and phenergan (promethazine) together and can I use Zofran for breakthrough nausea?
Caution with meds: This is not a good idea. Using promethazine together with meclizine may increase side effects such as drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, difficulty urinating, abdominal cramping, constipation, rapid heart beat, confusion, etc. All three of those drugs work for nausea -so you must be quite miserable. Dr prescribed Zofran and reglan (metoclopramide) for 10 yr old. Reglan (metoclopramide) has blackbox warning. Don't want to use it. What are the alternatives. Zofran not working alone.

However, to take this type of medication without medical history is under-standard of care. Example: Promethazine is a great antiemetic, but is contraindicated inchildren with liver disease. See below: A higher dose of zofran can cause several side effects. You can, however, alternate zofran with a few other anti-emetics so different types of meds are used, thereby reducing the toxicity but hopefully improving your nausea symptoms.
