Can you tell me if I could take Zofran (ondansetron) for the stomach flu?

If prescribed for u: If you have a prior rx for zofran, (ondansetron) and handled it ok when you took it, yes, you could take it for the stomach flu. However, we are assuming stomach flu and not other potential diagnoses only a doctor could make. Get it checked out if you have more than usual nausea/vomiting, or start getting abdominal pain, worsening symptoms overall... ...Read more

25 wk pregnant on Zofran (ondansetron) 4 stomach flu haven't vomited but have severe ddiahra is that normal? And I can't eat

Yes and No: It's normal to have the symptoms you are having when you have the stomach flu. If you are able to keep liquids down, then you just have to let the diarrhea pass, don't take any medication for the diarrhea. If you cannot keep liquids down (juice, water, etc.) then you need to go to urgent care or doctor for IV fluids. Very easy to get dehydrated when pregnant. If blood in diarrhea --> see doc. ...Read more

Probably a dumb question, but I take two doses of ODT Zofran (ondansetron) daily due to disease and nausea. Does this help protect me from vomiting from stomach flu?

Probably a dumb question, but I take two doses of ODT Zofran (ondansetron) daily due to disease and nausea. Does this help protect me from vomiting from stomach flu?

Not Dumb! It helps.: Zofran (ondansetron) helps with nausea and vomiting from many causes. So if you are taking it for chronic nausea, it will also affect the nausea from an acute gastroenteritis (stomach bug). It's a good question! Zofran (ondansetron) treats symptoms: nausea and vomiting, not the cause of them. These symptoms can have many causes, which Zofran (ondansetron) does not correct. ...Read more

I live in Sweden and My doctor gave me zofran (ondansetron) to take when I get the stomach flu to take away vomiting. Do zofran (ondansetron) help? Scared of vomit, panic!

Good for vomiting.: If you are questioning the efficacy of Zofran (ondansetron) for vomiting, I can tell you that it's very good for that. What I don't approve of is the indiscriminate treatment of vomiting or nausea without a doctor's close supervision. Vomiting is a symptom, which can be caused by many diagnoses. Treating a symptom without knowing the diagnosis can lead to trouble. ...Read more
