Geodon (ziprasidone) vs Seroquel: I don't know what issues you had with geodon, (ziprasidone) but there must have been some for your medication to be changed? Geodon (ziprasidone) may be less likely to cause sedation but more likely to cause insomnia & agitation. It may also have less frequent sexual dysfunction. Not really: Adding Geodon (ziprasidone) to zyprexa could expose you to side effects from 2 antipsychotics, but one drug would not really "supercede" the other. Sometimes psychiatrists will do a cross-taper (lowering dose of 1 drug while gradually increasing dose of new one) when transitioning to a new medication. No: Geodon (ziprasidone) does not damage histamine or Dopamine receptors nor any other receptors in the central nervous system that we are aware of. I do not know why you were on Geodon (ziprasidone) in the first place, but if you're not feeling well i would recommend that you go back to your physician. It is possible to develop insomnia secondary to your primary psychiatric illness which then continues even if the primary psychiatric illness comes under control. This is called insomnia secondary to a mental disorder. You may get relief from your insomnia with melatonin which is over-the-counter.
