No guarantee: I'm afraid ther is no guarantee. Some of the over the counter things taken can actually make some people's sleep issues worse (like in the case of RLS and antihistamines (benadryl). Just be careful on using something to help with sleep even if "natural." find out what is causing you to have trouble falling asleep if you can. ...Read more
Initial study and CP: A sleep study is initially done to see if the patient has sleep apnea. If the patient has obstructive sleep apnea the patient is advised to have a study with CPAP to assess the best pressure to treat it with. The pressures are adjusted to eliminate the apneas (stop breathing) and to improve the patient's oyxgen saturation to keep it at or above 88%. ...Read more
1/2 soma, melatonin, mobic (meloxicam) & Mucinex taken at bedtime. Have sleep apnea controlled w/ cpap, fibro. Having dreams so vivid I confuse them w/ reality!?
Alcohol?: What you are describing happens when you wake up from rem sleep. Melatonin has nothing to do with it, it is not an fda approved medication, and I am not sure why you are taking it. None of the medications you listed is expected to cause vivid dreams. Alcohol, and certain sleeping pills could do that. Recovering from sleep deprivation (long work nights) can precipitate it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
One for both: Research has shown that a device that positions the lower jaw forward while sleeping as is used for snoring and sleep apnea, also reduces sleep bruxism episodes. This is the only type of oral device that will actually reduce the number of bruxism events. Other dvices for bruxsim will protect the teeth and in some instances, decrease the intensity of the muscle contractions seen in bruxism. ...Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers

Insomnia: Some quick tips. Look up healthy sleep habits online. Create a consistent wake time and avoid naps. Go to bed only when you are tired. Why do sleep aides (benadryl, ambien, sonata (zaleplon) ,lunesta, prosom, elavil) not work for me?
Always tired. Fitbit tracker says low sleep efficiency. Videotape confirmed constant tossing during sleep. Should I do a sleep study? Recommended tx?
Consult sleep clinic: Good sleep helps you feel healthy and vital. Sleep apnea (frequent awakenings due to low oxygen levels during sleep) can increase your risk of high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, and even obesity! so consult a sleep doctor. If necessary, they will recommend a polysomnographic exam where they monitor your vital signs, movements, oxygen levels, and video your sleep in an overnight sleep lab. ...Read more
I have ob.Sleep apnea & am using a cpap nightly. I sleep 8-9 hrs/night. Still tired. Sleep studies also show alpha wave intrusion. How is this treated?
Other causes: Alpha wave intrusions have not been shown to be a problem by themselves, and do not need treatment. Assuming the CPAP is set correctly, controls the apnea, and you are using it every night all night, i would look for other causes of sleepiness (including narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia). Sometimes sleepiness from sleep apnea gets better with CPAP but not completely, and stimulants may help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Would a zeo sleep manager data be useful to a sleep doc? It shows i'm awake when i'm sure i'm sleeping. I have well-controlled apnea using cpap.
Not yet: I use the zeo but only for my own knowledge. It's useful to improve your sleep hygiene. But it can't monitor your breathing, pulse, or muscle movements except in a basic, indirect way. Currently, it has not been validated as clinically effective. Nor can we correlate the data with standard measurement techniques used in sleep medicine. Zeo has the same disclaimer on their website. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See below: Establish time when you would like to go to bed. Create a bed time routine: warm showers, room on a slightly cooler side. Learn relaxation exercises to help put your body in a "i'm sleeeeeepy mode" :). Don't use your bedroom as your office. Try to avoid afternoon naps, no caffeine after 3-4 pm. Use your bed for sleep and sex only. Our body likes schedules and routines. Remember that:). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
