Zeaxanthin Side Effects
Can lutein or zeaxanthin cause side effects such as insomnia, tiredness, dizziness, or constiipation? I want to take it to improve my vision.
No, however...: Lutein and Zeaxanthin are carotenoids naturally found in fruits and vegetables and do not have any side effects, but they may be in capsules that have additives or preservatives some may react to, so I advise companies like Pure Encapsulations and Thorne that don't use those. Many other nutrients are good for eyes such as Vit. A, C, D, E, zinc, selenium and EFA's. See http://tinyurl. Com/b56ua4

Is it ok to take trunature vision complex lutein and zeaxanthin capsule by young high myopes like me...Is there a side effect?

No: These vitamins do not cause weight changes.
If lutein and zeaxanthin capsules have no provened benefits (as mentioned by some docs here), why have they been sold and not banned by fda?
NO: It will not.Get a more detailed answer ›
When my mom (age 55) looks at white background, she sees smoke floating & black spots. Will lutein and zeaxanthin help to cure her situation?
See ophthalmologist: What you described suggests a retinal disorder and it would be prudent to consult an ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and treatment, as soon as possible. This is not an issue for self treatment.
If I work a job that requires 8 hours a day on the computer, is lutein and zeaxanthin absolutely needed?
Unrelated: These products have been suggested as possibly helpful for the slowing down of macular degeneration. Lutein and zeaxanthin have no relationship to computer use.
My mother (age 55) is facing vitreous opacities. I plan to buy lutein and zeaxanthin for her. Will lutein and zeaxanthin help to cure her situation?
Not likely: Vitreous opacities generaly develop as aging changes within the eye. What once was a gel and changes to liquid with some elements of the gel remains. Also if the gel pulls away from the retina (vitreous is shrinking) floaters will be seen. Also wih more serious retinal problems. Lutein & zeaxanthin are pigments that help the macula stay healthy;they won't affect the floaters issues.See 1 more doctor answer
Modulate inflamation: These are natural carotenoids found in dark-green leafy vegetables and in egg yolks. These compounds may exert anti-inflammatory benefits along with preventing free-radical damage. This is all hypothetical or science based and there is little clinical evidence. Still a diet rich in vegetables is always a good idea!
Can I take novoret (lutein+zeaxanthin+omega 3+eicosapentanoic acid) if I currently smoke? Are long-term intake of these supplements safe?
Yes: They are safe but have little value.
I hope no adversity: Lutein is present in spinach and other dark leafy vegetables and when we eat it, our body makes zeaxantin. Both of these chemicals appear to be essential for healthy macular function (reading and color). Macular degeneration was studied by the national eye institute using a vitamin combination in the lat '80s and this study is being repeated using both lutein and zeaxanthin as well as fish oil.
