Can i take omeprazole and Zantac (ranitidine) extra strength pill together since the omeprazole doesn't work much with my gerd?

Yes, but chk it out: You can use both medications if you need them to control your significant gerd/reflux trouble, but i would advise checking it out with your doc to see why you are having such bad reflux. An infection such as helical pylori causing gastritis/ulcers? Hiatal hernia? Nonulcerative dyspepsia? Minimize alcohol, caffiene, and minty/spicy foods n don't eat before bed. Don't smoke. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

Recalcitrant reflux: It sounds like you are having recalcitrant reflux, which means that you are still symptomatic in the face of maximal (and appropriate) medical therapy. The the thing to do is see your GI and undergo extensive testing- endoscopy, esophagus studies, ph studies. It is not normal to have such persistent reflux and can be dangerous to your tissues. ...Read more

My doctor prescribed me ranitidine 500mg for my acid reflux. One pill before bedtime. Is that dose too high? I was going to get Zantac 150mg instead.

Ranitidine dosage: Ranitidine/Zantac is the same drug. The former is the generic name. They come in 150mg and 300 mg pills. So it would be difficult to get 500 mg at a time. Call the doctor's office to clear up the confusion. ...Read more

The max dose for Zantac (ranitidine) is 2 150mg pills/day, but my heart burn is terrible and i have already taken 2. Can i take a tagamet on top of those two?

I wouldn't.: If your pain is so severe and is not being quelled by two Zantac (H2 blocker), then I would question whether it is acid reflux. I'd go see a physician. However, you can also consider trial of a proton pump inhibitor like nexium (esomeprazole) instead to see if it helps. I still recommend you seeing your doc. ...Read more

What is zantac (ranitidine)?

What is zantac (ranitidine)?

Antiacid stomach med: Zantac (ranitidine) is a histamine-2 (h2 blocker) which blocks acid secretion in the stomach. It can be used for esophageal reflux (gerd) or other general hi acid states. It may be safer to use long-term than the other popular acid blockers (ppi's) e.g. Prilosec.
