5 wks of 7.5mg Omeprazole was giving my 10 wk baby insomnia,started on Zantac (ranitidine) 1 ml x 3 on Tues.Reflux now much worse & baby very upset,do I persevere?

Reflux: The meds usually don't have much of an effect on the quantity of spit up. They help with the irritability of the reflux to prevent acid from causing the pain. It's all weight dependent so without a weight can't say if the Zantac (ranitidine) is the correct dosage or not. If the quantity is a lot then we sometimes thicken feeds through the bottle to help the reflux. ...Read more

See her doctor.: Depending on the company making the gripe water you use, it could have ingredients that aren't safe; gripe water is not regulated by the fda. Maybe try other: maybe you need a more potent acid inhibitor! You may wish to get either omeprazole 20mg over the counter and take twice a day or else get your physician to prescribe protonix (pantoprazole) 40mg daily and see if that works better..... ...Read more
