Can Zantac (ranitidine) cause insomnia? I've been taking 150 mg before bed for 7 mo now. Can't sleep. Also, any long term dependency problems like with PPIs?
5 wks of 7.5mg Omeprazole was giving my 10 wk baby insomnia, started on Zantac (ranitidine) 1 ml x 3 on Tues. Reflux now much worse & baby very upset, do I persevere?
Reflux: The meds usually don't have much of an effect on the quantity of spit up. They help with the irritability of the reflux to prevent acid from causing the pain. It's all weight dependent so without a weight can't say if the Zantac (ranitidine) is the correct dosage or not. See her doctor.: Depending on the company making the gripe water you use, it could have ingredients that aren't safe; gripe water is not regulated by the fda. However, it is commonly used to treat chronic hives in combination with traditional antihistamines. If you are taking advil on an ongoing basis it will probably not help with tomach pain (counteract the irritation effects). Uncommon: Zantac (ranitidine) is an h2 receptor blocker (a different histamine receptor). A very common side effect of Zantac (ranitidine) is nausea, GI upset and diarrhea. Dexilent and zantac (ranitidine) both suppress the acid in the stomach and normally both are not taken together. The exceptions are resistant GERD which does not get better with one and both are prescribed to control the acidity for short period of time
