I have GERD and I have no ins. What is the best OTC medication for that? I already take 300mg of Zantac (ranitidine) a day.
Baking soda: If cost is an issue, and your are already taking 300mg of generic Zantac (ranitidine) a day, then you could occasionally try taking a level teaspoon of baking soda in about two ounces of water for further relief. This is a home remedy that has worked well of decades, but is not promoted in standard medical practice. That said you should be evaluated asap by a gastroenterologist to determine the cause of sx. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have GERD and have being having heartburn symptoms. im taking zantac (ranitidine) now daily and i still have heartburn. What medication is best for heartburn?
PPI: Proton pump inhibitor. This class of medications typically works the best for reflux disease. It is advisable over to use this for about three months, and then try and wean yourself off and see how the symptoms are. Do this with the knowledge of your primary care provider. They might need to send you for more tests should medication fail. Hope this helps! ...Read more
I've been having severe heartburn for the past couple of days. I want to take medication but terrified of side effects. Is Zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid better?
Heartburn: For classic heartburn, zantac or pepcid gives quicker relief than ppi's such as prilosec or nexium (esomeprazole). It's also helpful to follow a bland, low fat diet and avoid alcohol, caffeine, chocolate and tobacco. I wouldn't expect any significant side effects from zantac or pepcid. ...Read more

I've been trying to get pregnant and I am currently taking Zantac(acid reflux) and Benadryl. Could these medications keep me from conceiving? Thanks!
Possibly: Ranitidine has not been known to cause any problems with fertility or pregnancy, however diphenhydramine/Benadryl and other antihistamines theoretically can affect the implantation of the egg in the womb by decreasing bloodflow to the uterus. It is still debatable, (and there aren't any good studies on the subject), but it might be good to stop taking benadryl unless you REALLY need it. ...Read more

Took Pantoprazole for 2weeks ending of 2weeks still had burning throat at night. Got switched to Zantac (ranitidine) & not working well. Best medication treatment?
See your doctor.: if your symptoms returned after two weeks of pantoprazole, you may need it longer-term. I do not recommend taking it long term unless it has been prescribed by a physician, however. I would return to see your gastroenterologist to discuss it further. In the meantime, follow anti-reflux precautions well. Good luck. ...Read more
I have acid reflux & have taken Carafate, Dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) Tums and Zantac, but I had to stop all the medications due to side effects. What should I do now?
Lifestyle: There may be some lifestyle issues you can modify to lessen the problems you have with reflux. The chemicals in coffee, tea & some sodas (caffeine) or it's cousin nicotine (smokers) all keep the stomach entrance from closing tightly. Removing them from your life can help. Not reclining for at least an hour after a meal or large beverage can also. ...Read more

What is the chance of me having anaphylaxis to fludrocortisone? Is it higher than say Zantac (ranitidine) and other drugs or same? This terrifys me with any drug.
HIghly unlikely: I don't believe that this has been reported although anaphylaxis to solumedrol (methylprednisolone) (another form of cortisone) has been reported but the link is to the succinate ingredient and not to the cortisone molecule itself. Most of the cortisone allergy is related to contact dermatitis and not anaphylaxis. Your anxiety on this may be the cause for some of your reactions. Talk to an allergist. ...Read more
