I have GERD and I have no ins. What is the best OTC medication for that? I already take 300mg of Zantac (ranitidine) a day.
Baking soda: If cost is an issue, and your are already taking 300mg of generic Zantac (ranitidine) a day, then you could occasionally try taking a level teaspoon of baking soda in about two ounces of water for further relief. This is a home remedy that has worked well of decades, but is not promoted in standard medical practice. That said you should be evaluated asap by a gastroenterologist to determine the cause of sx. ...Read more

I have GERD and have being having heartburn symptoms. Im taking zantac (ranitidine) now daily and i still have heartburn. What medication is best for heartburn?
PPI: Proton pump inhibitor. This class of medications typically works the best for reflux disease. It is advisable over to use this for about three months, and then try to wean yourself off and see how the symptoms are. Do this with the knowledge of your primary care provider. They might need to send you for more tests should medication fail. Hope this helps! ...Read more
I've been having severe heartburn for the past couple of days. I want to take medication but terrified of side effects. Is Zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid better?
Heartburn: For classic heartburn, zantac or pepcid gives quicker relief than ppi's such as prilosec or nexium (esomeprazole). It's also helpful to follow a bland, low fat diet and avoid alcohol, caffeine, chocolate and tobacco. I wouldn't expect any significant side effects from zantac or pepcid. ...Read more

I've been trying to get pregnant and I am currently taking Zantac(acid reflux) and Benadryl. Could these medications keep me from conceiving? Thanks!
Possibly: Ranitidine has not been known to cause any problems with fertility or pregnancy, however diphenhydramine/Benadryl and other antihistamines theoretically can affect the implantation of the egg in the womb by decreasing bloodflow to the uterus. It is still debatable, (and there aren't any good studies on the subject), but it might be good to stop taking benadryl unless you REALLY need it. ...Read more
Took Pantoprazole for 2weeks ending of 2weeks still had burning throat at night. Got switched to Zantac (ranitidine) & not working well. The Best medication treatment?
See your doctor.: If your symptoms returned after two weeks of pantoprazole, you may need it longer-term. I do not recommend taking it long term unless it has been prescribed by a physician, however. I would return to see your gastroenterologist to discuss it further. In the meantime, follow anti-reflux precautions well. Good luck. ...Read more
I have acid reflux & have taken Carafate, Dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) Tums and Zantac, but I had to stop all the medications due to side effects. What should I do now?
Lifestyle: There may be some lifestyle issues you can modify to lessen the problems you have with reflux. The chemicals in coffee, tea & some sodas (caffeine) or it's cousin nicotine (smokers) all keep the stomach entrance from closing tightly. Removing them from your life can help. Not reclining for at least an hour after a meal or large beverage can as well. ...Read more
Does any stomach medication (zantac/Prilosec) interact with sexual stimulants? (Viagra (sildenafil) 100mg)
What is the chance of me having anaphylaxis to fludrocortisone? Is it higher than say Zantac (ranitidine) and other drugs or same? This terrifys me with any drug.
HIghly unlikely: I don't believe that this has been reported although anaphylaxis to solumedrol (methylprednisolone) (another form of cortisone) has been reported but the link is to the succinate ingredient and not to the cortisone molecule itself. Most of the cortisone allergy is related to contact dermatitis and not anaphylaxis. Your anxiety on this may be the cause for some of your reactions. Talk to an allergist. ...Read more

I have been taking Prilosec for 10 years. Trying to wean off with Zantac (ranitidine) 150/2 daily. Is there another drug I could use. Zantac (ranitidine) is giving me anxiety?
Wolud there be a drug interaction if you are taking Prilosec 40mg and Zantac (ranitidine) 150mg if you still felt the heartburn?
Fine...: No major interactions exist, but I'm worried that your symptoms aren't being controlled well. You should definitely talk with your doctor to see if something else can be done. ...Read more
I took 450 milligrams of Zantac (ranitidine) and tested positive for meth on a store bought dip stick style ua given at work. I am not a drug user. What gives?!
Could Be False +: There is literature that with routine drug screens — which are great, and cost-effective — there are quite a few false positives, and the literature on Zantac (ranitidine) seems to corroborate that. Gas chromatography- mass spectroscopy is considered the "gold standard" in most scientific literature, though in practice it is not often performed in many clinics and hospitals. Also, — 450mg of Zantac (ranitidine) is a lot! ...Read more
If a person pre-medicates w/xyzal & zantac, (ranitidine) can they take a nsaid drug, if that drug has caused minor hives in the past? Get skin reaction only.
Possibly: Both xyzal (levocetirizine) & zantac have anti-histamine effects & may decrease or eliminate a mild reaction to nsaid. However, this can be dangerous. Repeat exposures to something you are allergic to can be more severe, including breathing & swallowing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or mouth. 6 classes of nsaids exist; you may not be allergic to other NSAID classes. An allergist may help a lot. ...Read more

See doc: Since there is no age or indication given for this combination of drugs, it is impossible to give any meaningful advice. Antiacid stomach med:
Zantac (ranitidine) is a histamine-2 (h2 blocker) which blocks acid secretion in the stomach. It can be used for esophageal reflux
(gerd) or other general hi acid states. It may be safer to use long-term than the other popular acid blockers (ppi's) e.g. Prilosec. Interestingly, since Zantac is a histamine blocker it can also be used for 'allergy' or hives. ...Read more
