Diagnosed with strep group g. Given 5 day z pack. Is strep g different than strep a? And would z pack get rid of it or could it be recurring issue.
Is different.: Group A strep is the type that causes rheumatic fever and so that always needs to be treated. The others groups of strep don't. Some don't even treat them as they get better on their own. Some do, so you get better quicker. Z-paks are not as effective as penicillins in treating strep. We double the dose in kids with Grp A, but it may help an adult in that dose, esp. with grp G. ...Read more

My dr gave me z-pack but i'm not sure why. He didn't say i had strep just flu symptoms. I left him a message but received no reply. I have 3 of 6 pills to take. If i don't hear from my dr do I finish the last 3 pills?
Finish: I cannot say why your doctor gave you the antibiotics, but it is important that if you start a course of antibiotics, you should finish them as prescribed. Taking only part of the course can lead to that medicine not working the next time you may need it. The bacteria can develop resistance, which is becoming a real health concern. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

At one dose a day i would think it is not to difficult to complete the rx.Trying to "save some" for next time can put you at risk. ...Read more
My daughter has strep and she sounds croup ish. She taken z pack for 2days /she not getting better should I call her dr and have him switch meds, ?
Not necessarily: If she does truly have strep, Zithromax is a fine treatment. If she sounds croupy, then croup is a virus and there is no specific treatment. If she is having trouble breathing, take her in the bathroom and turn on the shower, to let her breathe the steam. If that doesn't work, call your doctor, or take her to the ER. Hope this helps! ...Read more
I was diagnosed with strep yesterday & taken 3 doses of the z pack of antibiotic. fever still keeps coming back every 6-7 hours since Sunday night. ?
Strep Throat: Pharyngitis is not adequately treated with a simple "Z-Pak". Assuming you are allergic to Penicillin - and can not take the usual preparations of Penicillin or Amoxicillin, preferably Augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) would normally recommend a "double- dose Z-pak" ie- 500 mg daily for 5 days, Check back soon with your regular provider for reassessment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My throat has been hurting off and on for about two months. Strep test neg. Finished z pack sunday and now have huge white patches on throat. Advice?
Monilia: You probably are having fungal overgrowth as a result of recent antibiotic treatment. A less likely cause would be mononucleosis. Based on your history you may have a viral cause of your sore throat and didn't need the antibiotics in the first place. See the doctor if symptoms persist. ...Read more
