Z Pack Sinus Infection
Started 3day z-pack for sinus infection on 3/4/14. Congestion got better for about two days but is now back. Go back to Dr. or wait it out?
Z pack not answer: AZYTHROMYCIN is not the "greatest" antibiotic for sinus infection since the blood levels are often not high enough to reach deep sinus infections. Furthermore, there are RESISTANT organisms being described (probably due to OVERUSE of the Z Pac) You need a longer course of therapy with an antibiotic which reaches the sinuses. Ask your PCP to refer you to an ENT specialist .... ...Read more

I am taking azithromycin (as z-pack) for a sinus infection; finished course this morning and I am improved but still congested. Will it keep working?

Treated with Z pack for pneumonia and sinus infection. My neck, shoulders and head hurt so bad that I can't hardly stand it.
Need more info: While a z-pack might be adequate for a simple pneumonia there is increasing resistance to its effects and we generally prescribe the full 500 every day instead of the 250mg/day in the pack. It is also not adequate treatment for a true sinusitis which should be treated for at least 14 days with Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) or cefuroxime. Knowing if u just started or have finished the z-pac would help us advise you ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I took Aleve (naproxen) for muscle pain this afternoon and am already taking a z pack for a sinus infection later today i drank a 5 hour energy to help me study ?
What is the question: Zpack is an antibiotic (zithromax) which is safe to take with aleve (naproxen) which is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever which can alleviate the symptoms of sinus congestion pain (a decongestant may help as well if your blood pressure is fine - eg. Pseudoephedrine). I am not a fan of the 5 hour energy drink- but probably not harmful in this situation if only 1. You may need rest for recovery. ...Read more
Can being exposed to sewer being broken have anything to sinus infection lastimg weeks even if I took 2 rounds of z pack? Have had infection 3 mths.
No: If Azithromycin has twice failed, it is likely the wrong antibiotic since it is convenient but not first line treatment for acute sinusitis. Penicillins, cephalosporins and fluoroquinolines are much more effective for sinusitis. Speak with or see your provider and make sure you have an infection rather than allergies or another cause for symptoms. If infected, suggest a change in antibiotics. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
