15yo son w/Zoloft-induced mania; stopped Zoloft. On Abilify (aripiprazole) 5mg & Trileptal 150mg bid for 3 wks. Want to titrate off. Safe titration schedule?
See your doctor.: Those are strong medications. It is best to follow closely with your physician on this one. Doing it on your own, and doing it wrong could cause harmful side effects like seizures. I know you are asking for a safe titration schedule, but due to the nature of these medications I would personally recommend not do this on your own. ...Read more

Can patient undergo ovulation induction using gonal f (follitropin alfa) while using HRT mainly femoston 2/10 mg?
Doesn't make sense: In most cases this would not make much sense, although it could depend on 'why' and 'how' the hrt was being used. Estrogens such as in hrt are sometimes used in stimulation protocols with gonadotropins (such as gonal f, (follitropin alfa) ) an oral progestin would be an unlikely element of most protocols. ...Read more

Which is a safer, lower side effect profile drug, topamax (topiramate) or oxcarbazapine (in general terms, obv individuals vary)?
Don't 2nd guess: Neither is w/o risk and they are Rx'd for different (w/ overlap) conditions. You need to work w/ your Dr on selecting the best for you - say clearly that safety is impt to you. Know what they expect it to for your condition. Side EFX are pretty similar for both - your other health issues might be the swing vote. ...Read more

Depends on cervix: Before induction your current cervical exam is used as a determinant for which mode of induction. Cervidil is most likely used when the cervix is less soft, dilated, and effaced (thinned out), and more posterior, as it increases prostaglandins release to stimulate dilation, thinning and softening. Those who are already dilated and effaced benefit more from pitocin (oxytocin). ...Read more

Rxd topamax, xanax, abilify (aripiprazole). Topa induces 3a4. I love white grapefruit juice, which inhibits 3a4. Is this an unsafe combo esp with the topamax..?
Confusing: Topomax is a weak inducer of cyp 3a4, and maybe c19. Your biggest issue here is the grapefruit juice, which inhibits 3a4 quite significantly. This could increase the effects of both xanax and abilify (aripiprazole). Either you need to stop the grapefruit juice or drink it at a constant level. Please inform your prescribing psychiatrist about this. ...Read more

Vitamin K and...: Interesting question.Turmeric is considered to be a blood thinner if ingested. However, it is widely used in folk medicine topically to stop bleeding in wounds & apparently works quite well for this. Turmeric contains vitamin k, which supports coagulation.
