Yolk Sac When Seen
Doctors confirmed I was 5 weeks and 2 days as of yesterday. But only seen gest sac, no baby or yolk sac. Having light pink when I wipe sometimes. M/c?
Not normal: At six weeks one should see a fetus and a heart beat. ...Read more
I went for a scan at 7 weeks and 1 day baby was seen but yolk sac was very tiny should I be worried?
Probably not: At 7 weeks, seeing the baby and seeing a heartbeat is the biggest thing. Truthfully there isn't much else. If the ultrasonographer and your doc aren't impressed, then I wouldn't worry. If you are concerned, raise the concern, and they can discuss what a normal yolk sac looks like, and what issues you may be worried about. ...Read more
I had an ultrasound done, all she seen was a yolk sac and said it measured 5 weeks and 5 days. Is it normal not to see the fetal?
Good chance it's: Normal. A few days make a big difference at that gestational age. The more (or less) regular/certain your periods, the more difference it can make. At 5w5d most normal pregnancies will NOT have a heartbeat, but 2-4 days later will. Good wishes. ...Read more
I'm supposed to be 7wk preg. (lmp 1/28)my hCG #s have been 8968, 8956, 12000.No baby seen in u/s.Yolk sac present & was measured @5w6d. Is it a late ovu?
Likely okay: By the point of a HCG being around 2000 to 2500, there should be something seen in the uterus. If there's nothing seen in the uterus by those levels, concern for ectopic must be considered. If your HCG is 8968 and they are seeing a yolk sac, that's good news. I'm not sure what you mean by late ovu? Consider rephrasing question if this hasn't answered your question. ...Read more
4w3d showed a small bleed is seen anterior and right of the structure anechoic space seen no yolk sac or embryo I'm worried and scared?
Early: You do not say how certain you are of the 4w3d dating, but assuming that is correct it is early to see either a yolk sac (~ 5 weeks) or a clear fetal pole. Sorry you are worried, but US before the fifth week is usually inconclusive because things haven't had a chance to become visible yet. Good wishes. ...Read more
If my hgc levels were 24, 824 on 3/11/13, gestational sac, yolk sac, and cardiac activity seen transvaginally, how far do you think I was?
1st vag. Scan I was 5w1d No fetal pole only yolk sac. 5 days later Vag scan measures me 5w5d. Still only yolk sac seen. I Had IUI and should be 7w2d??
The only thing: To do is be patient and follow the ultrasound during the coming 1-2 weeks. This situation could go either way, but should give you a clear answer very soon - good luck in the meantime. ...Read more

Sac seen, msd-13mm -6weeks but my LMP is 8weeks 2 days--no yolk sac seen-fetal pole not visualized at the time of scan. Sac partially separated 8*5mm?
Dates off?: May be off on dates, don't see fetal pole until sac at least 18 mm on transvaginal scan. It may work out and your just not where you thought or the pregnancy may not be viable low probality but a pregnancy in the tube can create a pseudo-sac but you would likely be in pain. If non viable your chances of having a normal preg. Next time are not lower; go to the follow up, sorry, tough situation. ...Read more

I have pcos, had 2positive ptests I went for a scan. I was given a internal scan a sac/yolk sac was seen but no fetal pole asked to return in 2wks?!?
HCG tests?: You might have been too early to see the fetus, but this could be a miscarriage. You could get 2-3 HCG tests (quantitative hcg) each two days apart. The HCG level should double every two days. If it does not then it is probably a miscarriage. ...Read more
Lmp 10 weeks ago after a mmc in march 2015. Positive hpt on 4 th June. US yesterday with gestational sac 16mm x 10mm x 10mm. Yolk sac seen but no fetal pole. What does this mean?
Possible miscarriage: Based on your LMP 10 weeks ago, we should see fetal pole and cardiac activity today if it is a normal pregnancy. Without seeing a fetal pole, it means it is most likely not a normal pregnancy or a miscarriage. I suggest you to see a OB/GYN doctor for evaluation. I am sorry. ...Read more
I had an ultrasound at 4 1/2 weeks, they said they seen a ges. Sac and maybe a yolk sac in uterus. Am I clear to say its not ectopic.
Hello, my beta hcg levels show 75000 but only a gestational and yolk sac is seen on sonogram. My gestational sac is measuring about 7 weeks...
Blighted ovum: At 7 weeks an ultrasound should show a fetus. The finding of only a gestational sac and yolk sac is unusual at the least and may suggest a blighted ovum. To be sure, most would recommend a follow up in a few days before discussing terminating the pregnancy. Hope this helps and all goes well. ...Read more
US at 5w5d gest sac meaures 5w1d but yolk sac is seen. My OB is dx with blighted ovum due to HCG being over 7000, stating a fetal pole should have been seen. Is this accurate?
Rely on ultrasound: It is true that an HCG of 7000 means that you should see a fetal pole. But the HCG is a less important tool now. It is very important early on to differentiate an ectopic. Your ultrasound shows that the pregnancy is in the uterus and not an ectopic. It's ok to wait and repeat the ultrasound. There is no harm in waiting one week and looking again. ...Read more
I am 7w + 1d, uterus is anteverted. It shows a single intrauterine gestation sac, no embyonic pole was seen, yolk sac not visualized? Am I safe?
Gestational sac and tiny fetal pole seen on transvaginal ultrasound at 5w3d. However, no mention of the yolk sac. Note said early or abnormal preg.?
Hard to say: It is normal to see a yolk sac at 5 1/2 weeks but often one does not see a fetal pole by then. I would not be concerned yet. I presume your doc plans to recheck this is in a week and he/she will have a better idea then. ...Read more
Just had an ultrasound at 6wks/2dys twin sacs very close together. I've a very tilted uterus. A yolk sac was seen in one but no fetal pole/hb. Viable?
Twin sacs: You will need to have a few more scans over the coming weeks. It is possible that it was too early to see the fetus/heartbeat of both or either twin. Further scans will help see whether it is a miscarriage or not. It is not uncommon to see twin sacs early, but only one living baby later on. One twin can not develop (it dies and is resorbed) while the second twin does well with no problem at all. ...Read more
1st scan at 6+1 measuing 8mm with possible yolk sac. Scan 10days later found 2 sacs - 8mm empty and 13mm with haemorrage. Another scan in 1week. Help?
Hard to know: Early ultrasound in pregnancy can sometimes be inaccurate because a fetal pole needs to be big enough for the ultrasound technology to pick up. Typically we expect the gestational sac to grow between ultrasounds and the development of a fetal pole over time as well. No development of fetal pole could indicate very early pregnancy or blighted ovum ...Read more
No: Seeing a yolk sac only lets us know that at least the pregnancy is in the right location within the uterus and not in the fallopian tubes. To confirm that it is a good, viable pregnancy, you will need a follow-up scan in a week or two to show the fetal pole with a heartbeat. The fetal pole/fetus is not the same as the yolk sac. ...Read more
Yes, that's possible: Yes, the ultrasound may be correct, as many women do not ovulate at precisely day 14. You see big changes pretty rapidly in an embryo that young. Of course clinical correlation with your blood HCG levels, symptoms of pregnancy and timing of intercourse need to be considered. If you have no vaginal spotting or bleeding and if you have symptoms of pregnancy that's a good sign. Recheck in 1-2 weeks. ...Read more
Is it possible for beta values to keep multiplying (by 1.5 & more every 2 days) when there is no clear yolk sac (week 6)?
Vag scan meas. Me at 5w5d. Yolk sac 5.7mm no hb. 2 days later, another vag scan new tech. And I was 6w2d, yolk sac 7mm with 100 bpm. Yolk sac big?
Borderline.: The upper limit of Yolk Sac size is generally considered to be 5-6 mm. There may be increased risk of spontaneous abortions in patients with larger yolk sac. Enough patients have good outcomes with large yolk sac, so that you should disregard size. Be healthy, eat well, rest and avoid ingesting toxins. ...Read more

Yolk sac: This may not be normal if you are not off on your dating. It could represent a miscarriage. However, if you are off on dating, you can do another ultrasound and/or have your doctor perform a series of pregnancy tests at least every 48 hours apart. Either or both (preferably) can help give you an answer. Normally, the blood test numbers will go up by 50% in a 48 hr time period. ...Read more

Was told I was 7w5d, could see yolk sac but no embryo? Could it be a miscalculation or should I worry?
Hard to say: Without being there or seeing the scan. If you had a vaginal ultrasound it would be quite unusual to not see a fetal pole at 7+ weeks. With an abdominal ultrasound (thorough the belly) I'm not surprised at all: they aren't terribly good for first trimester. Check with your OB and good luck. ...Read more
