Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

25 weeks pregnant, stool color changed from brown to yellowish and softer 10 days ago. Any risk for baby's or pregnancy health? What should I do?

25 weeks pregnant, stool color changed from brown to yellowish and softer 10 days ago. Any risk for baby's or pregnancy health? What should I do?

Pretty common: The color in stool is the breakdown product of the bile when it has not been in the gut long enough to go through a change from green thru yellow to brown. It is normal as is the loose consistency. Some digested material will take on a darker tint than others & the germs in the gut will also impact the final product. I'd ignore the whole issue. It is not a risk for baby. ...Read more

Yes but. . .: Rather than speculate ; worry about this, go take a home pregnancy test now (as you may be pregnant from prior unprotected sex, not necessarily this most recent episode). Assuming it's negative, be sure to protect yourself until next period. If late, take another pregnancy test. If still negative, you're probably in the clear but need to continue to protect yourself. Set a daily alarm for ur pill. ...Read more

They can also occur with disorders of the liver, biliary tract including gall bladder, pancreas or certain malabsorption disorders. Are two different colored stools (yellowish and dark brown) normal? If bleeding is suspected, can there be partial melena and partial normal stool?

Sure...: Melena, by definition, is passage of dark stools stained with denatured blood. As we established in prior healthtap answers, all dark stool is not melena. Your doctor, or even an over-the-counter test that you can purchase, can check to see if your dark stool contains blood. Needed is for you to provide a sample of the dark stool. Why are stools brown but when you wipe it's yellow?

Bile pigment: Stool contains, among other things, a substance called bile which is produced by the gall bladder. Bile helps digest dietary fat. Am having yellow color stool with little bit of brown stool embedded in the yellow ones. Think this is because of my diet. Suggest a diet for evaluation?

Clay colored stool.: Medically speaking, we describe clay colored stool in the context of gallbladder issues, primarily. You need to have an evaluation of your gallbladder, liver, pancreas and surrounding structures, to say the least. The clay color comes from a lack of bile entering the intestines to mix with the forming stool, ...Read more

Had yellow/brown stools for a week now only 1 movement a day as normal but it sometimes firm other times urgent and loose should I worry?

I wouldn't: I believe the two main possibilities are that you had a viral gastroenteritis or mild food poisoning which has resolved on its own, and now your stools are gradually returning to normal. Or you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome--a disorder of normal bowel function which results in cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. It is managed with increased fiber/other dietary change ...Read more

Hello. I am a 26 years old male, have problems with really dark brown urine when I am very active, and my stool is thin and yellow and small. I am als?

Please see a doctor: This is not ALS, but dark urine is a symptom with a wide differential ranging from post-traumatic over-exertion hematuria to issues with kidney (IgG nephropathy) to muscle problems from either an inborn error of metabolism (metabolic myopathies) or mitachondrial disease. You could go into kidney failure with some of these conditions. Please see your doctor for further evaluation. ...Read more

Normal liver enzynes normal colonoscopy but stool color is bright yellowish brown what do I test for or is this normal?

Can't fix normal: Stool color is dependent on the main colorizing agent, deep green bile, and the action of germs in the gut as poop moves though it. Normal colors range through deep greens through yellows to browns depending on how long it stays in the gut & the effect of gut germ metabolism. What you describe is well within the normal range for stool color. ...Read more

Stool colour yellow with brown patches, and pain below the belly button. What does it mean?

Colitis: The yellowish stools usually are caused by more rapid transit through the intestinal tract and are soft. The abdominal discomfort suggests irritability and/or inflammation of the colon. I have H. pylori and for the past year im constipated or my stools are green or yellow and dark brown why?? should I be worried?

Constipation: H pylori should have little effect on your stool consistency.
Functional constipation is very common, and consider increasing dietary sources of fiber (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and nuts), as well as increasing water you drink throughout the day. Sometimes a stool softener may help. The color of stool you describe is quite normal.
