Some mornings I wake up and hack up some yellow/brown phlegm. Its usually when I first wake up. I don't have a cough or feel sick. Is this normal?
Maybe postnasal drip: Mild nasal allergies can cause some muscus dripping in back of throat/mouth and collects there during sleep and can turn a bit brown in the am. During day, little mucus/drip is pulled down by gravity, but when sleeping mucus tends to stay in back of throat and thus productive coughing/coughing in the early am. If worsens, call doc for eval. Good luck. ...Read more

Have you seen doctor: If you have had cough and purulent sputum for over 2 months, you have some kind of serious respiratory infection. While smokers certainly get more of these, non-smokers can get any kind of infection as well. Exercise/infection: There is some evidence that parameters of immune function can be slightly diminished with intense exercise but this is more than balanced by the beneficial effects of exercise. The probability here is that you are being exposed to classmates with infections that are transmitted to you, and not that your immune system is being compromised. ...Read more
