A small amount ok: I realize it is difficult to estimate "What is a small amount? " Helpful that you improved your constipation with diet, and that there is no blood. Also reassuring that it has been present for a "long time" with no other concerning symptoms. I would say that if it is more than a tablespoon per bowel movement, you should be evaluated. Mucus stool hi bili: Constipation? may be hemorrhoids, or food intolerances, or polyp or proctitis, ileitis. Is it blood in stool or food residuals? Would f/u/ w/ GI for colonoscopy

Perhaps proctitis (rectal inflammation) due to inflammatory bowel disease i.e. Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. YES: Mucous is the Bowel's way of "protecting" itself against irritants (that includes LAXATIVES... If you are using laxatives regularly (and I suspect you may be) STOP and see your Primary Care Provider for a GI evaluation!
