Mucous in stool: It is normal to have some mucus in stools, but if it is very noticeable for an extended time, you need to discuss this with your toddler's pediatrician. One thing, if your toddler is constipated on a daily basis, the mucus could be due to that. A small amount ok: I realize it is difficult to estimate "What is a small amount? " Helpful that you improved your constipation with diet, and that there is no blood. Proctitis? Colitis?: This probably indicates some sort of inflammation of the rectum or lower colon, especially if there is also pain, discomfort, diarrhea, or a sense of blockage of bowel movements. Antibiotic effects: It's quite possible you're experiencing side effects from the antibiotics. Depending on how 'bad' your condition is now, will determine the best course of action. Proctitis?: Cancer doesn't cause this sort of thing, and cancer is exceedingly unlikely at your age. Maybe an anal fissure or abscess. Perhaps proctitis (rectal inflammation) due to inflammatory bowel disease i.e. Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Mucous is the Bowel's way of "protecting" itself against irritants (that includes LAXATIVES... If you are using laxatives regularly (and I suspect you may be) STOP and see your Primary Care Provider for a GI evaluation!
