My 2 month old has diaheria everytime he eats I switched formulas but even a week he still does it &now it looks like there is mucus in his stools?
Formula: I would recommend not switching formulas unless your child's doctor is aware as it may not help and it can be upsetting to an infants GI tract. My baby is 2 months old. For the last 2days she has had mucous in her stool. No fever or any other symptoms of illness. Happy baby! What could it be?
May be normal: At that age, infants are still developing proper bowel function and some bm's may look like there is mucous in them. Most commonly, they may look like mustardy, etc. As long as the baby is happy, playful, growing and you keep your appointments with your doctor, all should be well. If really concerned, bring you baby in for an appointment with his/her doctor. Best wishes. ...Read more
No: It is not normal for a 2 month-old baby to have firm, constipating stool before, during, or after a vaccination (the vaccination doesn't have anything to do with it). Constipation happens in babies sometimes, more often in formula-fed babies than in breast-fed ones. Because 0-3 months is very young, the doctor can check to be sure the baby is ok. Occasional glycerin suppository use can help. ...Read more
I changed the formula on my 3month old from enfamil infant to enfamil a.R he passes stools 5 times a day now: yellow thicker w/ mucus is that normal?
Yes: The difference between the two formulas is that the ar contains a rice starch to "thicken" the formula a bit so that the baby doesn't spit up as much. This can increase fiber content in the stool, making the stools a bit thicker. 5 poops a day for a 3 month old is totally normal. Babies poop a lot! ...Read more
I have a yellow mucus stool, and when I wipe its also yellow. I am 16 years old and worried I have somethinglife threatening/cancer whatisacommoncaus?
Proctitis?: Cancer doesn't cause this sort of thing, and cancer is exceedingly unlikely at your age. Maybe an anal fissure or abscess. Perhaps proctitis (rectal inflammation) due to inflammatory bowel disease i.e. Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. If sexually active involving your rectum, STDs (gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes) are possible. All possibilities are potentially serious; see a doctor soon. ...Read more
My grandson is 6 mos old and on neocate and Nexium (esomeprazole) for severe reflux. His stools r yellow mucus 4to5 times daily. Docs say it can't be neocate., what could it be?
Underlying condition: Neocate is elemental formula that is very non-irritating to the GI tract, which is why it's used for young children with GI tract disease. Mucus in the stool is often a sign of bowel inflammation, but not always. If a child has such severe GI tract disease as to require Neocate, it is likely that the underlying condition is responsible for mucus in the stool. Don't stop any treatments on your own. ...Read more
