What your doctor: said is true in general. Red flags for a vaginal infection (as opposed to normal vaginal secretions) include a strong or bad odor, watery discharge, irritation, itching and other uncomfortable symptoms. Effect of Mirena (levonorgestrel): since Mirena (levonorgestrel) is intrauterine contraceptive device that releases progesterone, there can be changes to the color, amount & thickness of vaginal discharge. as long as you are not experiencing pain with intercourse, having bleeding in the vagina or any itchiness, bacterial vaginosis or STD is unlikely. gentle use of warm water as douche to irrigate your vagina and remove the discharge may help. ...Read more
