How is a overgrowth of yeast in the gut treated?

Intestinal yeast: Typically a result of antibacterial agents, immune disorders, or dietary issues, the cure often depends in part on cause. If you are not on antibiotics and do not have an immune system problem, the best cure is to add good bacteria back by eating yogurt or taking probiotics available at your grocery or health food store. Sometimes we will use prescriptions like Nystatin or other agents. ...Read more

Want to eat plenty of plain yogurt while on doxycycline to prevent yeast, gut symptoms. If i eat it hours after my dose, will still interfere w doxy?

Doxycycline ; dairy: Dairy products can interfere with the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, including doxycycline, but the clinical significance is unclear. Docs, could a person live without yeast/candida in their gut?

Docs, could a person live without yeast/candida in their gut?

Of course: Please be careful. Most of what you read about "gut flora" and especially "candida" online is fake -- even if looks like real science. If you let someone persuade you that you have a subtle "systemic candida" infection, or that you need to be carefully balancing your intestinal microbes, you'll believe you need all kinds of things you don't, and will never feel well again. Be discerning. ...Read more

What to know about yeast? I'm confident there is a problem with my gut con. yeast. I think if I can control it my health would improve significantly.

Probably not. Sorry.: Sorry to maybe disappoint you, but "systemic" yeast infection, or yeast overgrowth in the intestine, is an urban medical myth. There is no such thing (not counting life-threatening fungal infections in people with cancer or immune deficient because of chemotherapy, etc). See a physician about your symptom and take it from there, but don't expect miracles or any yeast-related treatment. ...Read more

I have been told i'm intolerant to yeast & that its 'eating away' at my gut and that I should have a strong pre/pro biotic to help it?

Theory: The concept of yeast intolerance is one which has had adherents for years, often without any factual evidence to support the theory. Probiotics are not harmful in any way, but you can achieve the same results from eating non-pasteurized yogurt, which is much tastier. My philosophy is that if it will not harm anything but your wallet and you are willing to do this, please go ahead. ...Read more
