Itchy outside skin of vulva and sometimes labia, not horrible but have had for two months at least. No yeast medications work. Any idea on what it is?

Resistant yeast?: Yeast still may be the best bet. About 15% of vaginal yeast infections are due to Candida species that often are resistant to the "azole" drugs, i.e. the active ingredient in most OTC yeast treatments. Alternate treatment, e.g. nystatin or flucytosine, can help. There are other causes of genital itching as well, and you listed some in your own tags. Time to stop self diagnosis and Rx; see doctor. ...Read more

Have a bump on vulva w hair in it. Rest of Bumps are in inner labia and inside vsgina. Herpes or yeast infection? Gyno looked said herpes.

Probably herpes: Association of lesions with hairs is atypical for herpes, but your gyn's opinion on examination is more important. Were you tested for herpes and yeast? If herpes is suspected, you should have been started on treatment immediately with oral valacylovir or acyclovir. Waiting for a test result may be too late for it to help much, and the drugs are harmless. Discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Could be: Some women are more prone to yeast infections while taking antibiotics. The itching can be intense and you may notice a "cottage cheese" type of discharge from the vagina. My vagina is very itchy, irritated, and labia minora becomes swollen and painful. Already taken diflucan. But is this more than a yeast infection?

Azole resistance?: Yeast alone still is most likely. A few percent of yeasts that cause vaginal infection are resistant to fluconazole (Diflucan®) and other azole drugs. Best to be rechecked by a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and decide whether other kinds of treatment (like caspofungin, micafungin, flucytosine, or nystatin) might be worth a try. Good luck! ...Read more
