How can you tell the difference between a diaper rash and yeast diaper rash? How are they treated?

How can you tell the difference between a diaper rash and yeast diaper rash? How are they treated?

Diaper rash: Without seeing, it’s difficult to diagnose. If the diaper rash fails to respond to more frequent changes and use of ointments sold for this condition, then it is possibly due to yeast infection. Yeast diaper rash will respond to topical antifungals.

How can I get rid of my son's yeast diaper rash?

Depends: Diaper rashes have several causes, the commonest being due to infrequent changing. If there is a strong odor of ammonia, that is a clue. A yeast infection is another cause. I would advise that you see your pediatrician.

See below: Air out the diaper area and let the sun shine in! You can also purchase and antifungal cream without prescription like lotrimin af (generic 1% clotrimazole) cream. Apply to the affected diaper area 2 times daily. The cream is the same one used for athlete's foot and jock itch. If the rash is not improving over the next week, have your doctor check to ascertain if yeast is truly the cause.

Can you place a drop of baby's oral nystatin on your nipples or the cream nystatin (for his yeast diaper rash)?

Wrong path: You are trying to cure a topical problem with an internal route. Diaper rash is on a baby's butt not in it. You need to apply the proper ointment or medication to the rash.

How common are yeast diaper rash? Ped said that the slight redness around baby annus with pimples could be yeast. He is on solids now and 9M old.

Common: Yeast are a normal component of everyone's poo by a week or so after birth. Diapers trap moisture in the area and the repeated exposure to the yeast in that environment makes a yeast rash common, especially if there is any other irritation from other components in the stool.

Fungal diaper rash: It is important to be certain that you are dealing with yeast infection, there are other anti fungal topical agents that can be used. I can take a look at the uploaded picture in the consult room and advise further. In the meantime maintain diaper care and strict hand washing to prevent a transfer of the infection to the mouth.

Yes you can, but: Use as directed, and twice a day for at least 10 - 14 days, keep the area clean and dry, treat oral candidiasis if present. If that doesn't work you need to see the pediatrician / dermatologist for a second look, best wishes
