Clot risk: The risk of clot is slightly higher in YAZ do due the type of progesterone in it. It has nothing to do with the dose really. If for example you had a clot on Ortho tri cyclen, no one would suggest you use tri cyclen lo instead. Migraine and stroke: Do you have aura with your migraines? The stroke risk is increased if you have migraine with aura and use estrogen-containing birth control. And the stroke risk increases from very very low in a 19-year-old to still very low but not as low. A pill with less estrogen or a progesterone-only pill would be safer. Also, if you smoke, quit! Slightly: The answer is a bit more complex. All birth control pills slightly increase your risk for blood clots. Yaz and yasmin, have a Progesterone that has a sligtly higher risk then other birth control pills. That being said, the risk of blood clots during pregnancy is ten fold higher then this, yet most women don't avoid pregnancy because of that risk.
