Wondering if there would be any weight loss effects. I take Yaz for birth control, acne, and severe cramps. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've been on Yaz for 9 months ago to control my serious hormonal acne. It cleared up pretty well. Can i go off the pill w/out serious acne returning?
I am taking Yaz for acne and have gained 6 lbs in 2 months. Are there bcps i can take that will help control the acne w/out weight gain?
All OCP's: Help acne. They do so becuase, when metoabolized they increase a protein that binds to testosterone. As well they decrease endogenous testosterone from the ovary itself. Drospirinone, the progesterone in Yaz, is hypothesized to do it better because of the type of Progesterone but that contribution is minimal. Give it time: I usually advise patients to give "the pill" at least 3 cycles to determine if they will experience clearing of acne. Continue to use topical acne solutions AND take some before and after pictures of your skin to convince yourself that things are better or worse. If you do not experience at least some resolution of acne symptoms discuss with your doctor. ...Read more
What are the side effects of Yaz birth control pill in treating pcos and acne? In dilemma as to whether I should start or not.
Clotting and emboli: Acne develops after one has periods because of hormonally induced changes to the skin with more oils. Taking birth control pills helps to regulate this and can decrease acne. But even low dose estrogen birth control pills increases the risk of deep venous clots (DVT) and can risk the emboli to the lungs. A family history of clots is a contraindication. Hormones: This is one of the well-known side effects that some people experience. Decide with your physician whether you want to try a different hormonal medication, or (more likely) want to use a 21st century treatment for the acne. Bad acne: Acne of the nature that you are describing can really be a serious issue. It can scar your face and effect your appearance in the future.
