Ct scan report reveals acute sinus and bilateral sphenoid sinus. Doctor has prescribes clavam, velgut, xyzal-M and nazal spray. I have head heaviness.

A tonic for chronic: If the symptoms persist or worsen after completing the course of the antibiotic, call your doctor. The sinuses can take a while to heal. You might even need an extended course of antibiotic. The sphenoids don't drain as well as the maxillary or frontal sinuses, and they're not much better. Try and beat this ASAP, you don't want chronic sinusitis! ...Read more

My gp prescribed one xyzal (levocetirizine) a day and 2 sprays of Veramyst in each nostril twice a day. Is it a normal dosage? What are the possible side effects?

My gp prescribed one xyzal (levocetirizine) a day and 2 sprays of Veramyst in each nostril twice a day. Is it a normal dosage? What are the possible side effects?

Normal: Zyzal is the new zyrtec, that dose is standard. It can cause mucosal drying and some difficulty urinating in persons with enlarged prostate. The Veramyst is a nasal steroid, which can predispose tofungal infection or bleeds. None of these are common side effects, they are generally well tolerated. The doses are usual. ...Read more

I'm transitioning from xyzal (levocetirizine) to allegra & my hives are returning. I seem to react to everything--my meds & enviorment. When will allegra kick in?

I'm transitioning from xyzal (levocetirizine) to allegra & my hives are returning. I seem to react to everything--my meds & enviorment. When will allegra kick in?

Reason?: We don't usually switch pills when you are doing well with it. Xyzal (levocetirizine) does have a slightly higher incidence of drowsiness compared to allegra. One would expect Allegra to take effect in about 2 hrs. If the reason for switch is due to drowsiness, then you may up the dose of Allegra to 2 to 4 x daily. If xyzal (levocetirizine) did not have side effects, then there is no reason to change to allegra. ...Read more

How long does xyzal (levocetirizine) drowsiness last for?

How long does xyzal (levocetirizine) drowsiness last for?

Up to 24 hours: But for most 8 hours. With continued daily use you should feel less drowsy each day. The problem is that antihistamines that cause sedation also slow reaction times. While the sedative properties diminish with time the effect of reaction time does not. You just may feel as though you are fully alert because you are no longer sleepy. This can increase the risk of accidents. ...Read more
