Hard to say; investi: It's hard to say from the short introduction what the problem could be. If the symptom (pain) is disabling or keeps you from doing usual activities, you could use further investigation. Rib sprain/bruise (from trauma), liver problems, and other problems can arise. It depends.: The appearance on x-ray is highly variable depending upon the angle the x-ray was taken at as well as your body position at the time. Unless you have had trauma or have a congenital anomaly, it is unlikely to be more then artifact. Radiologists are well trained in deciphering this issue and they're read of the x-ray will be the most important factor in interpretation. ...Read more

2yo xray says first rib has a horizontal course proximally and is angulated acutely inferiorly&is partially fused to the 2nd rib. What can be done?

Wouldn't do: Anything unless there is some symptom directly related to that anomaly. You failed to mention whether you had any symptoms which initiated that radiographic investigation. Simply finding something doesn't mean you have to do anything with it. ...Read more

Don't worry about it: There are several possibilities, mostly in the mild abnormality range. I think you should treat with benign neglect for a month or so. The trouble with x-rays of the ribs is that they may be quite normal with soft tissue changes. But the symptoms don't sound alarming to me. ...Read more
