Xanax For Fear Of Flying
Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, it does not last long in the system . So when used regularly with multiple doses to treat anxiety, it is associated with inter-dose withdrawal, tolerance and a resulting increase level of baseline anxiety. So in anxiety clinics, we use it only in cases of " flight , dentist or other infrequent anxieties, ...Read more
Way too much: Sometimes because 1 mg seems like a really low dose, people forget (including some of my colleagues) that Alprazolam is a very potent drug, and that 1 mg of xanax (alprazolam) is the equivalent of up to 15 mg of valium. Doctors starting valium will give no more than 5 mg (sometimes 1-2 mg in the elderly or benzo-naive). Xanax (alprazolam) should be started at 0.25 - 0.5 mg for most people. And yes it can reduce that anxiety. ...Read more

0.5mg Klonopin = 0.5mg Xanax (alprazolam) = 0.5mg Ativan in terms of strength? Which is "best" for fear for flying/claustrophobia on airplane? I can't tell.
I've always been exremely scared to fly. Severe panic attack upon takeoff/turbulance. Will Xanax (alprazolam) help? I already have an prescription for other anxiety issues.
Maybe, but...: Honestly, if you are that scared and anxious to fly, the amount of Xanax (alprazolam) you would have to take would probably be so much that you would be literally sedated, and not able to take care of yourself in a real emergency. So if you don't have someone who can travel with you, i wouldn't recommend it. You sould consider behavorial or desensitization training to help with your fear. These programs work. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Terrified ga. Have d&c under ga in few days. Dr. Has prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) for morning of. Anything i can say to reassure myself that very likely i will wake up!? Like my fear is a sign, silly, that i wont
No fear is "silly": Hard to know why you have this kind of fear, but it is not uncommon, and it may relate to some childhood experiences with other people having surgery, or may be related to some other trauma. Many doctors and dentists will prescribe a low dose of Ativan or xanax (alprazolam) prior to a procedure (or taking a flight, or public speaking or whatever). The support of friends/loved ones is best - gather them around. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What your Dr prescr: Prescribes. The decision regarding the dose of any medication like this is extremely personalized. People have tolerances to this class of medication all across the board. As physicians we try to provide just enough to treat the symptoms while adding in an antidepressant that has been antianxiety effect as well as psychotherapy. We try to keep the dose as little as possible and the treatment as short as possible with the realization that there are people who require extremely low dose short-term treatment and others who require the opposite.Severity of the anxiety interestingly does not always predict dose response. Some people with high anxiety get by on low doses and some people with relatively low anxiety require higher doses. This is why the practice of psychopharmacology is so individualized. ...Read more
I'm a very nervous flyer and I must take a flight soon. Best benzo to ease the fears? Ativan? Klonopin? Xanax (alprazolam)? And what dose? Want a 2nd opinion
Nervous Flyer: any of the benzodiazepines will work, they all are anti anxiety agents. There is no best, it is the physicians experience and choice. Also the dose is experience and patient specific. Discuss with your doctor and get the one he/she and you decide on. A second opinion for this is like butts, everyone has one! ...Read more
Psychiatrist prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) @ .25mg 4x/day. Is this normal? I fear adverse side effects. Is alcohol ok in moderation? Thank you in advance.
Normal for what?: A psychiatrist might prescribe xanax (alprazolam) on a temporary basis for anxiety, after a comprehensive evaluation. What did s/he explain to you about the medication? Has talk therapy been suggested? No, alcohol is not okay in combination with xanax (alprazolam). I also see that you're on amphetamine, but no condition is listed for this. Discuss stopping those with your psychiatrist. You may not need xanax (alprazolam). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Im prescribed vicodin and xanax (alprazolam). It scares me to take both in the same day in fear of low respiratory breathing effects, but i need both, should I worry?
Why Xanax (alprazolam)?: Xanax (alprazolam) can be used short-term, but because it induces tolerance and can be addictive, it's not a good long-term option for anxiety. Hoping you're working with a psychiatrist who has thoroughly evaluated your anxiety and offered a comprehensive treatment plan that includes psychotherapy. On the vicodin, hoping you've had a full pain evaluation also -- rather than treating only symptomatically. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I would define fear as an insecure feeling, a feeling of impending doom! this is a sort of defense mechanism we developed that help us to survive. Fear helps us from falling "off the cliffs, " as we know the consequences; and help us survive. Children unknowingly, fall off, as ...Read more
