Talk to your doctor: Why not speak to your prescribing physician in order to have a tapering schedule taking into account your past medical history, rationale for being on these medications, and overall health status? Without these details, it is difficult at best to be able to provide a way to address this issue. Strongly suggest you speak to your local doctor regarding this. ...Read more
Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, it does not last long in the system . So when used regularly with multiple doses to treat anxiety, it is associated with inter-dose withdrawal, tolerance and a resulting increase level of baseline anxiety. So in anxiety clinics, we use it only in cases of " flight , dentist or other infrequent anxieties, ...Read more
Will Xanax (alprazolam) help with morphine withdraw symptoms? I've read that benzos can help. I have script for xanax (alprazolam). Could I take 1/day?
Yes it can.: Benzodiazepines such as xanax (alprazolam) can help curb symptoms of opiate withdrawal. It is not wise to take them regularly, as then you will be replacing the opiate with the xanax (alprazolam). They can be very addicting as well. Be careful when you take them and try to spread them out infrequently if at all possible. ...Read more
How to know if you had an allergic reaction to anxiety meds. Through iv? Xanax, (alprazolam) ativan, and morphine for chest? Arms feel heavy? I went to ER 4 times.
3 : 3 CNS depressants that provoke dependency, tolerance, and can cause death for respiratory depression when combined unwisely or at a certain dose. Your question is referred to heaviness in arms and allergic reactions, signs of which I don t see in your description, possibly missing the real point. Ask your dr and report your symptoms, you might need some meds adjustment or change; maybe detox. ...Read more
I take 2mgs of xanax (alprazolam) 3x daily (started at .5mg 4x 35 years ago). Is 10mgs oxycodone 2x and 15mgs morphine ER 2x for back diseases safe with the xanax (alprazolam)?
It is not safe: Taking that much of an opiate can be deadly if not under the care of an experienced MD, preferably a pain specialist. According to the CDC, accidental deaths due to opiates (hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine) cause 44 deaths PER DAY! This is an epidemic, so it is pretty safe to say that opiates are NOT safe medications unless under the CLOSE supervision of a Dr! http://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/epidemic/index.html ...Read more
I want to know why a doctor would prescribe 60mg morphine 3x. Hydro 4x. Soma 3x. Xanax (alprazolam) 2x. Even after saying I didn't need it. Neck injury.
See a Different Doc: If you don't want pain meds, see a fellowship trained pain/spine specialist that avoids opiates if possible. There are many options for your pain issues, so they may be able to help. The prescription you've been written is a recipe for disaster! ...Read more

Poppy seed muffins: Are a frequent cause for false-positive morphine urine drug screens. Poppy seeds can also be found in salad dressings, and on bagels. A GC/ MS test of your urine can quantify and definitively identify the substances in your urine. A low amount of morphine on the GC/ MS would most likely be from ingestion of poppy seeds. Talk to your physician about these possibilities. ...Read more

Several reasons.: Morphine is used for pain (acute and chronic) and shortness of breath. It has always been used for pain, earlier on it was for sleep, and during the last decades it was considered a must give for chest pain patients. That has since changed. . Some people use it for entertainment purposes, but that is not the purpose as prescribed by a physician or legally prescribed in the United States. ...Read more

ANXIETY: Xanax (alprazolam) is usefulin reducing anxiety. However, if anxiety is a problem, the cause of the problem is important -because when you know how something works and why, you can dosomething about it. Morphine can lower:
Anxiety, but using it for that would be like killing a house fly with a cannon. Better anxiolytics are Ativan, Xanax, (alprazolam) Valium; although all of these can also be addicting. Morphine can actually increase anxiety, especially if you have an allergy to it, or to its nor-metabolites. Why are you anxious? Here's a reference:

No & Maybe: Actiq shouldn't be used for non-cancer pain. Tolerance develops rapidly because of the rapid, intense effect. This results in the need for higher and higher doses over a very short time. This med is most appropriate for patients not expected to survive for more than several months as the med becomes less effective rapidly. Fentanyl patches may be more appropriate.
